Topic 1:

I'm starting to eat healthy now for a number of reasons. It sucks, today is day one. LOL. Seriously, healthy food is gross. However, I like the taste of very few vegetables. Probably because most of this stuff isn't what I grew up eating and now I have to get used to the taste later on in life

Anyone else eat fairly healthy or is a health nut here? It'll make me feel better if i'm not the only one.

Topic 2:

Organic food, since i'm thinking about starting to eat healthy, I figure now is as good a time as ever to start picking up Organic items. I hear many good things about them, but i'm still a bit wary. Does anyone only eat or mostly eat organic food here? Honestly, when you stopped eating regular food and started to eat Organic food... did you eventually see any change in your energy level, skin, hair, nails, anything at all?

Thats all.

Me too, but not much. It's over by like 2 points of what is considered a high normal. But that's due to other things.

I think this thread is dedicated to Militant.
I knew before I even clicked on this thread that you would mention my name. Get off my dick.

Trish - I try to eat healthily. It's all about balance. The healthy food I eat tastes awesome. You gotta be creative, cook things in different ways, mix n match you know? What kind of things do you like to eat? Me, I love rice, so I eat a lot of that. And pasta, spinach, beans, etc.

I also love rice and beans (of course) lol and Spinach is okay as long as it's fresh. I hate cooked Spinach. As for recipes, it's hard because they usually include a lot of something that I don't eat.... onions, carrots, tomatoes, etc. LOL.

Also, do you eat Organics at all?

i have been trying to eat much healthier the past year. i cut out the fast food. i usually only eat subway if i do eat fast food and maybe once every two months order pizza or chinese.

it seems hard at first but it isn't that bad. i used to not like potatoes unless it had loads of sour cream and butter on them. now i'll eat it plain and wouldn't have it any other way. i used to not like wheat bread and now i wont even touch white. the sweets are hard for me. i still eat them but not that often. it is really about portion control when it comes to things like that. i used to hate oatmeal too, but now i eat it almost daily for breakfast.

the worst thing for me was cutting back on sodas and beer. that took a while to do but now all i really drink is water. the beer wasn't hard to cut back on but the sodas and kool-aide was the hard part. i would drink pepsi and mt. dew like it was my job.

fruits have never been a problem for me but i have started to like fruits i never liked before. and i'll eat almost any veggies all day.

as far as organic food i haven't really gotten into that. i used to buy organic bananas all the time just because they tasted better and would last longer.

The whole thing about organic produce is that it's free of pesticides which can give you cancer in the long run and also mess with your hormonal balance, which is especially of concern to women. Also, it's usually more nutrient-rich and generally tastes better. So, yeah, it's worth the extra price.

Now, there are some fruits and vegetables that are more heavily sprayed than others, and they are the ones you should especially be trying to get organic. Those include peaches, apples, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, pears, potatoes, and grapes.

Others are less sprayed like bananas, pineapples, avocado, broccoli, eggplant. Onions are the least sprayed and very healthy, so get with the program.

You can change your taste for foods by cutting things out and adding things. It does work. Whatever you eat repeatedly over time when you're hungry will be what you associate with satisfying your hunger. It gets wired into your brain. Junk food really doesn't taste better; it's just what most people got wired into. Once you get rid of all the over salty and over sweet foods (most of what ppl eat), you begin to really taste food for the first time.

Also, if you want great-tasting healthy foods, you really need to get into cooking on some level. Find out about foods and try new things, experiment. And do it slowly, not all at once.

Thank you sooo much. This is such an awesome post. I do cook a lot, so i'm trying to experiment with some recipes now. Also, you made mention of causing hormonal imbalances which is one of my main concerns with "normal" food. I know Onions are healthy, I just can't bring myself to eat them for some reason, what about onion powder or onion salt, you know the little seasonings? And you really were dead on about people liking what they're used to eating. It's my main problem, the things i've grown up eating are delicious meals that are meant to be simple and filling, due to having minimal income and a desire to feed people, lol. And it's not healthy at all, but i'm used to it. I think once I get into the habit of things... I'll be okay. Again, thanks a lot, this really was a really good and helpful post.

Yes, onion powder and garlic powder are good too. Not as good as the real thing, but good. Ginger and cayenne also have very beneficial and heathful effects.

Pesticides have synthetic estrogen that take the place of good estrogen on estrogen receptor sites in the body and can increase the risk of breast cancer and fibroids, etc. Foods like broccoli and especially soy products have good estrogen which can help rebalance the hormones.

I'm actually helping a woman right now with fibroids who wants to get pregnant but doesn't want an operation to remove them, as well she shouldn't. The operation can have serious complications and doesn't deal with the underlying problem of hormone imbalance. It's only been 3 weeks but her growths are starting to shrink in response to dietary changes and the use of supplements and herbs. And with this change not only is her fibroid condition being helped but so is any other disease process that has been building up and waiting to rear it's ugly head when her system reaches it's breaking point. Also, she's lost a good 10 pounds, which is making her happy. See, the diet that's best for any condition is the one that's best for all conditions, as well as being the best way of eating everyday. The only diet overweight people need to go on is a healthy diet that is also a lifetime diet for them and for everyone.
