New cars that interest you?

^ What does its price have to do with anything? It's still a useless effort. Yay, we stuffed an engine from a $180k car into the entry-level Mercedes, haha funny. But to actually offer the service? While I'm sure that there are a few idiots who had nothing better to do probably tried it, no one in their right mind would buy this conversion.
I just fucking gave you the price of the car because you said you didn't know if it was "worth it." I didn't say anything after that.

Something I've also been interested in is the new CTS-V that supposedly does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. What the hell? And it's not like I can say "oh, it's an American car, it's all about HP and straight-line performance" because it shat on many cars' N'Ring times as well. If the M5 is still considered a "competitor", then its got a looooong way to go when it gets refreshed in 2010.

The CTS-V kicks a whole lot of butt. Like the ZR-1 and the Z06, these are good cars. Americans are doing a catch-up effort and theyre pulling it so far.

Doesn't cost a fucking thing either, especially in the States itself.

if jeremy clarkson cant find anything wrong with the ctsv than i can say it must be great. the car does 0-60 in 3.9. the 1/4 mile in mid to low 12s and 120mph. it runs the ring in under 8 minutes. it has adjustable suspension thanks to the magnetic dampering. so you can have comfort, great handling without also having a twitchy car (im looking at you Z06). the car is worth every penny. and if i had to choose a daily driver chances are it would be the cts :)

Yeah, the interior of BMWs in general are kinda bland since everything's done with the iDrive, but the CTS's is almost like a Lexus. I really don't know what BMW's answer to the CTS-V is gonna be. But in all fairness, the CTS's engine is the ZR1's minus two cylinders, right?

^ No, the CTS-V (LSA motor) has almost the same engine as the ZR1 (LS9 motor), except a few parts are a little different and it is detuned.
Gotcha. The CTS-V is supercharged maybe that's what gave it the added bonus over the M5 in addition to the more horses/torque and lighter body weight. I hear the next M5 is going to be a TT V8. Yay. No inefficient 6.0L V10 putting out only 500 horses. :eek:h:

The M5's engine is great, but one reads and sometimes hears that it seems to lack a bit of oomph in the lower ranges.

And not that I think BMW couldn't build a kickass twinblown V8, I think it'd be cooler if they build a bigger V10 for the M5. It's classier to have a 10 in the M5 since theres already an 8 in the M3.

But yes it's going to be very interesting to see BMW's final answer.

The lack of oomph in the lower rpms is the result of an engine that size with that many cylinders with that kind of compression ratio. It's really high-tech, but the reality is that AMG's 6.2-liter walks all over it in terms of actual power delivery since it makes practically the same amount of power (though more in different tunes) while making truckloads of torque more at any given rpm. The M5's V-10 is an awesome engine, but when trying to hustle a car with that kind of weight, you might want more torque.

Actually it's a 5.0-liter V-10 putting ut 500+... hardly inefficient.
You're right. I felt something was wrong when I was typing "6".

BMWs are starting to get heavier, so I doubt the M5 will be taking the CTS-V over anytime soon. I don't think even adding more torque could make the M% .7 seconds quicker to 60. And what about the handling? Doesn't a V10 already make the car heavy as shit? More torque to the wheels just might make the car go crazy around turns.

believe it or not. the v10 isnt that heavy. its even lighter then the previous gens v8. i hope they stay with the v10. nothing beats the sound of two inline 5s put together :)

Well, it's not that alone. The first-gen Viper sounded like two inline-fives put together. Needless to say, based on customer feedback, Chrysler connected the exhaust pipes (not sure if it was an X- or an H-pipe) to ensure that it did NOT sound like two inline-fives but a proper V-10.

Carrera GT beats them all hands down. That machine has such a crazy sound.

That was a poor clip, though. :) The car sounds best pummelling through it's gears. The Gallardo makes a good second.

The BMW and Viper sounds, boh. Can't get excited over those after the Porsche and Lambo, huhuhuhu.

agreed. the carrera gt is the supercar i would own if i had to only choose one. its not the fastest but its a true 6spd with a great sound and plenty of torque. it cant be mistakened for any other car neither.
