Looks like 'German Hatchback meets SUV'. The "family guy in his 50s" type of SUV. But not gay, no.
To me it always looks like a total mix between a VW Passat (front), VW Golf/Audi A3 (back) and BMW SUVs. Personally while I kind of dig most of those I'm not a fan of Touareg, but I don't think it's a bad car.

It's a lot better value than a Range Rover, and also cheaper than the Q7 and the Cayenne.
I am also of the opinion that it's more important what is on the inside of the vehicle than the outside. But... I don't want anything too ugly. The only downside is I would get taxed out of my arse, as I would with most decent cars, as the engine is a V6 (Tiny to Americans, massive to anyone not on a massive oil producing continent.)

Corvettes can be bought for their engineering too. Sure, it seems a lot of old farts are seen cruising around in them, but I think they are the pinnacle of American auto engineering. At least the ZR1 and Z07 are. They're amazing to cruise in and their unstoppable on the track.

Aren't diesels, in general, taxed less? I know the US and Europe have different models, but I was under the impression diesel was always better than gas when it came to saving money, either at the pump or through taxes.
I don't care for Audi, but many magazines have rated the S6 over the new M5 and E63 because of its value. It's performance is on par with the latter two but they specifically mentioned the interior of the Audi being superior in every way. This was in C&D, July 2012.

Our fuel is taxed at over 80% of the total cost. But we also have to pay road tax. Which is worked out on how much pollution your car puts out. The Touareg I am looking at is a V6 3L Diesel. It puts out 278 grams of co2 per km. Which would mean I pay an extra £500 a year. If I was to buy a 530D it would be cheaper.

i'm of the opinion that if you can't live in an area where you don't need a car, you need to figure out your spending. cars are so 1920s. i guess you get a pass cause you have a kid but i thought london had good public transportation. apartment in the city, walk to the bar, cab back, public transit to work, that's my life starting august 1st. no more car at all.
In central London only millionaires can afford to drive, really. Everyone else gets public transport. In greater London you need a car. Public transport is just as expensive, if not more so, than owning a car. There would be so many things I couldn't do without a car. Getting to work would take 5 times as long.

If you must have an SUV, I can't say much else. If you want a diesel sedan, the 535d should still be there, right? THAT is the perfect blend of power and efficiency.
