its not about their character that will make me buy someones music and she should know that otherwise, why the fuck did she like guys like fucking Prince (crackhead wife beater and shit)/ Michael Jackson (identifying/ sexuall abusive issues).
WHOA, WHOA, WHOA! Slow down, son. Don't start making up bullshit in here.
First of all, Prince is very much anti-drugs and always has been. I don't know what made you think he was a crackhead. He's probably as far as you can get from a crackhead. He's a sober, religious workaholic who's only vice has ever been women, up until his conversion to Jehova's Witnesses about 10 years ago he was a hardcore womanizer. Nowadays he claims to be celibate, but that's another topic.
Wife beater? Prince has been married twice and there have never been any claims of abuse. Both his marriages ended because he was seeing other women, which goes back to the womanizer thing.
Don't confuse real life with Prince's character from the movie 'Purple Rain' in which he does slap his on-screen girlfriend. In the movie, after doing this he is remorseful and sees comparisons with his father, (who in the movie was a wife-beater) and turns his life around.
As for Michael, I believe he has some issues but I also believe that he would never hurt anyone, especially a child.
I agree that someone's personal life shouldn't affect people's appreciation of their music. But what you have to realize in your mothers case is, for her generation, Prince was seen as a bad role model in that he pushed the boundaries of sexuality both in his music and with his appearance. That kind of rebellious personality was what enticed people to him, in exactly the same way that Eminem's persona did to our generation, except that Eminem's whole thing was more about violence and criminality rather than sexuality. Your mom probably heard Eminem's stuff and was worried about the influence that would have on you, just as your grandmother probably heard your mom listening to Prince and was worried about the effect that would have on her.
Of course, smart people can think for themselves and aren't so easily influenced to want to go out and act like their idols. Unfortunately there's a lot of people who ain't that smart. Like the people that think 'Hit 'Em Up' was all 'Pac was about and think it's a good thing to go around flexing like a bad ass.
