Music Software Question?

#1
Hi, I was wondering what programs/softwares everyone uses to create/record their songs/beats/audio/mixes, etc? I've been looking at a few programs from Acid, Fruity Loops, Cakewalk Sonar, Garage Band, Sound Forge, etc? What programs do most of you guys/ladies use? Any recommendations or reviews would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance....

Vocals: Pro Tools, or if you dont have a Pro Tools system, Logic is pretty tight. I dont really like Sonar or Sound Forge, and never used Garage Band.

Production: Fruity Loops, Beat Box, Reason, and then load into Pro Tools (or Logic refer to above).

Currently using...
Vocals: Cool Edit Pro 2 [gets basic shit done...kinda confusing to figure out @ first, but easy after that]
Beats: MPC 1000, lil bit of fruityloops

I used to use CakeWalk Home Studio...that shit is hella easy to use when starting out. A few less extras than Cool Edit, but does the same basic shit. My bro has started getting in2 Cubase lately...thats sposed 2 be real good 2. He says its pretty nice...but we aint really done nothin on it.

My boy uses Acid Pro and some FruityLoops and comes out with some nice shit, so Acid might not be a bad idea.

do you want to have an all-in-one package or are you more interested in one than the other out of producing and recording vocals?

well you cant really go wrong with fruity loops because it is fun to make beats with (but you need to get some good samples of drums and VSTs <virtual instruments>) and it can also record vocals.
but if you want to make better beats i suggest you check out Reason. get that (cant record vocals) and then get something like Ableton Live or Cubase and you can 'rewire' them to reason and record your vocals through these programs and basically that is the best software setup. Reason costs a pretty penny though.
But you might want to ask this question over at futureproducers.com or some other sites and will probably get more thorough answers.

whatever the case, good luck :thumb:
