Hymnz vs Ant BEAT BATTLE

#21
without prejudice or bias,

i'd say hymz beat did it for me,ant your beat is also very nice, just a little boring for me.hymz i like the melody, real nice. I can picture nate dogg on it.

Ant , your beat was better instrumental wise imo .. but bigmack's right , it's too repetitive ...
loving the piano tho' !
I think it's more of an old school beat , as in a loopbeat , you know what I mean? If you would've added a couple more instruments , it would've been great!
Maybe a nice , complimenting stringmelody to it?

I'd say you win , but I'm sure my vote won't count because Hymnz thinks I'm hating on him ...

Hymnz I was never hating on you dude

i like your beat Ant but i think mine is a little more well done. no disrespect though. can we get some more opinion here on both beats?

i vote Hymnz

Ant's beats good too, the only think i would personaly change is that piano u got goin there. Probably save it for a hook as appose to the whole track.

good job tho, both of u

Ant gets my vote. Don't care if it sounds repetetive, it aint gunna sound as repetetive with lyrics over it. Im guessing thats a harp U sampled, well its sicc. Drums R nice 2, go with the vibe real good - def. an underground feel 4 this one.

Hymnz ur beat was pretty nice, was put together good - and U made ur own melodies which is a plus. But it sounds HELLA FruityLoopish. That hi-hat is ugly as fuck, like Ant said it sounds like a metronome. Iunno...jus not really feelin any of the instruments U chose 4 it. Bass sounds nice tho... drum pattern sounds good, melodies and everything R nice - jus dont like the instruments U chose 2 use.

So Ant gets my vote.

Sidenote #1: If U want a mod to get involved in judging, try PMing us.

Sidenote #2: Hymnz - U need 2 get off ur own dick. Depth said nothing offensive/hateful, yet you came at him like somebody just raped ur mom. Calm the fuck down.

Good job to both producers tho.

sorry mr Limn sir...
when i look at P.O.Ds message (the one i lashed out at like somebody raped my mother) i admit i went a bit over the top.
sorry Pain. hope we can be on a good note from now.... i will neg some n00bs posting in the wrong places etc and then i will be able to compensate for my neg on you.

and yeah i know my use of these instruments (rhodes, bass, analog sound 1 ;) ) may not have been that wise but i aimed for simplicity. this beat was done very quick and i will make it far better before selling it. i don't understand how something can sound FruityLoopish?
the drums for this was done on the MPC at my friend's house and that took like 10 minutes. FL doesn't have that swing, so it must be the instruments i used. next time i will use some better stuff but i was just sick of spending so much time configuring all the sounds to sound 'cool' and 'new'. i use the sonically magnicifo sounds everyday, but this time i didn't. i aimed for simplicity.

but you gotta understand that this is a beat battle, not a what if a rapper put rhymes on this beat battle....

so that is an irrelevant base for criticism.

when i get home i will PM some people to check out the beats.

so now the votes are at 2-2. whoever gets to 5 votes first wins.
you can specifiy any number of votes that determine the winner, but there have been like 150 views and 4 votes so they are not going to be flying in... so i say 5

FL DOES have that swing, U just have 2 fuck w/ the tempo the same way U have to w/ an MPC. And it wasn't the drums, it was the melody/instruments used for the melody that sounded frootyloopish.

And what do you with these beats? Make a CD and tell people to bump your beats? Thatll go far. Yall make beats for people to rap on, so that must be taken in2 consideration when commenting on a beat - how somebody would sound on it. For instance, I can picture somebody [like myself ;)] rippin the fuck out of Ant's beat; whereas I don't get that vibe from yours.

Besides, that was not a basis of my criticism, I merely said that cuz people were commenting on the repetetiveness of it. I used to be like t hat, too, until I started putting lyrics over beats when I'd listen to em...its the base feel/vibe you get from a beat that makes it great.

Ant:

The beat idea is cool, but the melody seems off-beat? i dunno doiesnt sound 'sync'd' but nice idea the effects r nice n shit. 6/10

Hymnz:

i like the laid-back-ness and the bassline i like that a lot, the melody is okay nothing overly special but it works nice.8/10

my vote goes to Hymnz

Melodies aren't influenced by the program you are using. There is no such thing as a FruityLoopish melody. The instruments are not FL exclusive. Additionally, for FL to be able to generate sounds (not the stock FL packages which sound nothing like these), it requires VSTs. VSTs are not made solely for FL.
Please clearly define 'FruityLoopish' if you wish to rebuttle.

i don't necessarily disagree with the rest of what you said so i will leave it at that.

Thanks for the review Harris... very constructive :thumb:

Not quite sure how to explain it, guess its jus from usin the program. The melody bells or whatever they were jus sound like somethin U'd make in FruityLoops. Not 2 mention a simple drum pattern, which is what comes out of most Fruity beats.

FL is probably one of the easiest programs to make complex drum patterns in... you can see the kick, snare, etc all in one window and can see all instances of it. again the host program is not a factor...
IMO the only time the host program interferes with your potential is when it is uncomfortable to get around.. this the case with FL for me, and that is why i do not use it. don't you use FL? i bet you could generate a nice pattern.
when i was banging on the mpc, i had the melody in mind already. i tapped out a really nice drum pattern that would have sounded good with a hard-ish beat, but immediately saw it wasn't gonna work with this. there would have been an anti climax when the kick drum and snare hit... this pattern fits the theme better than any others i think...
and with the 'bell' melody- are you talking about the rhodes or the pad in the background?

It sounds fruity loopish as its too clean and electronic sounding, that's what I get from it anyway. From what I hear you talking, I expected better, in truth. Maybe you over rate your self and all this tagging shit is pure nonesense. Selling beats over the internet is what alot of rookies seem to think will make them a stack.

The fact that both out beats would appeal to a completely different audience is swaying the result, I feel.

I havent really fucked with FruityLoops in years - but we're working with it again cuz I like the way melodies come out on it w/ a midi controller, rather than how they sound on the MPC; not to mention all the effects.

And the bell, ya I think its the Rhodes one..the main melody.

this is probably the worst beat i have made in years.
i do not sell beats over the internet. this is the first time i have posted beats. from what i hear, even the most talented are struggling to make $100 per beat. if you hustle your beats in the real world, its far more effective than on the net, even if the same person is the customer.
whoever wins this, i say we have a rematch and you will see the beats i can make when i don't 'aim for simplicity'.
i cant wait
