On a side note it's ironic how pointless is human life (and actually any kind of life) in our universe considering that we're about to face an inevitable doom. Maybe the point of life and 'race race' (lol) is to evolve enough to be able to protect ourselves from awaiting dangers that we have no impact on yet.
If human kind achieved so much during the last few thousand years I wonder how will life look in xx billion years (considering nothing will destroy us by that time). A vision of self-sufficient planet perfectly protected from any surprises the universe holds to doom us might not be a total fiction. Full control of black holes, various types of radiation and supernovas might not be impossible if somebody at some time discovers how they work. I think it sounds as unbelievable as our current technology would to a man living 5k years ago. It's fascinating how much there is yet to discover (or at least I hope there is).
