Canada. such a huge country, massive population and surprisingly shit at sports lol

look at Ireland. a tiny country and the population is under 4 million. we have a competitive football team that has done well at World Cups in the past. an excellent rugby team that won the grand slam last year. we have one of the best golfers in the world. some of the best race horses in the world. and we have two national sports that are more popular than the rest of those sports (gaelic football and hurling)

look at the size of Canada and they dont even have decent football team. no wonder Rahim has to support Brazil. Only sports they seem to be any good at are is Ice Hockey and Lacrosse. Ice Hockey is a good sport but not that popular worldwide and one gives a shit about Lacrosse

Yeah I heard some guy doing the Skeleton came off at 140 km/h and flew into a metal pole. Ouch.

And meh at the Opening Ceremony and meh at the Winter Olympics.

It's tragic. The guy was 21 years old taking part in something he loved. He died two hours before the opening ceremony.

The death of Nodar Kumaritashvili, who lost control of his sled, flew over the wall and slammed into a steel pole — on a course that athletes had warned was dangerous — cast a shadow of grief over the start of an already troubled games.
I don't care much for Winter Olympics but, I do hope Nodar's team mates keep strong and win in his memory.

He was indeed doing high speeds at the time of the crash like artisticgurl mentioned. It was about 90mph.

There's only 30 million people in Canada. Football isn't popular there.

Ireland actually has 6 million people living there. No one cares about rugby either except the Brits, their former colonies and the Frogs. You have 1 bleedin' golfer. No one even remotely gives a shit about gaelic football or hurling. Horse races is for you islanders and gambling Chinese.

Canada = ice hockey.

^^lol. no we have a few good golfers but one, Padraig Harrington is among the best.

The population of the Republic of Ireland is about 4 million.

Rugby is probably about as popular as ice hockey is.

Hurling is an amazing sport. great to watch and play. obviously no one outside Ireland care about it though.

i wasn't boasting or anything. Im just pointing that a country of Canada's size should be be better at sports.

Take Australia as another example. A country with a smaller population than Canada. They have a great rugby team. a good soccer team. they are good at cricket and they have their own sport, Austalian Rules. And they also take home a lot of medals from the olympics.

Massive population? There's 30 million people in Canada. None of us care about rugby, gaelic football (don't know what that is), hurling, or football. The only one of those sports thats popular in the world is football. Were good at winter sports, because you know, it is winter here 10 of 12 months.

We have playable football fields 3 months per year, where the hell do you want us to play footy??? That's like expecting Ethiopians to be great at swimming competitions...

They're building inside stadiums massively now, so it won't be that bad.

To be honest, Canada wouldn't be half bad if its best players wouldn't play for other countries.

Hearearegreaves for England and De Guzman for Holland are two good examples.

what winter sports are you good at? but then noone really cares about those either since sports like Rugby are more popular than most of them and everyone seems to dismiss it as being irrelevant. In fact Rugby is played in Canada but the team sucks.

Of course you havent heard of those sports. but does Canada have any of their own national sports that other sports have to compete with for number of participants? thats why i mentioned them in relation to Ireland and Australia.

A country with that population should be able to at least field a competitive football team imo. Its the most popular sport in the world. Canada's football team is extremely poor. not mediocre or average, just plain shit lol. Soccer is generally hated in the US and has a shit load of sports to contend with for popularity and numbers there, yet they are able to field a competitive team that can hold their own. dont see why Canada cant.

I take offense to that as a hockey fan.

Rugby barely has a World Cup with countries like (this is the first tier) : Australia, England, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, and Wales.

Hockey: Canada, USA, Sweden, Finland, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, France, Germany, Belarus, Denmark, Italy and so on and so on... hell even Slovenia is getting good at it...

As for Cricket... it's like considering Curling a sport. It's not a sport. Cricket? Fuck Cricket *R.Williams voice*

We also have our sport: Beer drinking.

But honestly. Lacrosse is a sport. And Hockey is also our national sport.

I don't give a shit. Canadia rules.

Hockey?

But I understand your arguments honestly and I get what you're trying to say...

It's just that out of those 30.000.000 people, winter sports are basically the only things they can really practice all year long and perfect since we have a 4 month long summer/spring. The rest is cold as hell...

As for footy, like I said, it's only getting better. Canada won't be a force in the next 20 years, but they may be taken more seriously... The interest is only growing.

and actually, ice hockey is a sport i wish we played over here but we dont have much ice lol. Its similar to hurling in many ways though.
