It was pitiful show from Milan last night. I was actually convinced Arsenal were going to turn it around and proceed to the next round.

Now Barcelona are owning Leverkusen & Messi is fantastic.

its a more a case of AC Milan going into the game with a bad attitude imo. The fact that Arsenal scored 3 in the first half kind of suggests that i think

Messi scored 5 tonight. great goals as well

Or... That Milan are actually a poor team. Much like Arsenal, or should I say Van Persie (as he is the team).

Bilbao played a dominant game at Old Trafford last night. The funny thing is that United have been really dismal at home, whether its the Champions League or Europa League. I'm looking forward to the game next week as both teams will be going all out...At least that's what common logic tells me.

I also think Da Gea is starting to show what he's capable of. He's taken a ton of criticism.

While United played badly. I don't think the result is the end of the world. SAF made 5 changes to the team. The second goal was marginally offside. And the Free Kick for the third was ridiculous. However, I thought Rooney looked a little sloppy last night.

AC Milan were missing a lot of players against Arsenal. I knew they would play poorly though, they tend to do that when they think they have won the game. Arsenal had nothing to lose and attacked with pace, something Italian teams struggle with, but the second half Milan showed up and Arsenal tired. Boateng is a big miss for Milan, he's perfect for that role behind Robinho and Ibra as he buzzes around whilst Ibra and Robinho drift around.

Bilbao outplayed Man Utd. Its embarrasing how easily their players can pass the ball around. Only Scholes can really do that in the midfield, Carrick has the ability but too often plays it safe. But they played us off the park, yeah sure their goals were controversial but they deserved to win. 3-2 flattered us.

Man Utd are too open for European football this season. I wasn't surprised we lost tbh. I'd prefer if we put out a weaker team in the second leg.

Rooney was sloppy, he's a streak player, he goes hot and cold for spells, hes only ever really had one consistent season, he's a brilliant player but he can have games where the ball bounces off him every time he gets it.

I think the other thing is that Bilbao made the most of the chances they got, which explains why the dubious moments resulted in goals. I was ticked off when Rafael (or was it his brother?) went to sleep but, its an experience that can only make him grow massively as a defender.

Would a 'weaker' team get the job done? Or is the job already done that United shouldn't bother chasing the tie?

I was surprised by the loss. United conceding 3 away goals was just something I never expected to see in the game. Besides the well taken penalty, I agree about Rooney not being effective in the game. No one doubts what he is capable, but on a seasonal basis, he is nothing close to winning a world player of the year award.

Chicharito as well had an off game. Any other day, I suspect he would have put away all his chances.

I think the only thing going on with United this season is the transition of the new generation of players coming in to the team. It's a cycle that always has its price, but the long term benefits are worth the cost.

Maybe. Bilbao for some reason decided to rest the majority of their best players at the weekend, despite having a 5 day break. I think a weaker team would actually play better as they will be playing for places in the team. I'd start Berbatov, Bilbao's home ground as an amazing atmosphere, the crowd will be all over any mistake that is made by United, we will need someone to hold on to the ball and keep calm.

Our European record is shit this season, we tend to play well for 60 minutes and then stop playing and give away cheap goals, I'm not sure whether its arrogance or just laziness.

I'd like to see Berbatov get a start as well. Sometimes I even forget he's a United player.

EDIT:

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Manchester United's record signing Dimitar Berbatov is set to leave Old Trafford in the summer.
I guess I can now forget he's a United player. I don't understand what happened between him and Fergie. He was tied winner of the golden boot last season.

I'm sure most people are aware

Beaten by the much better team. Bilbao's fans were classy. Brilliant.

Still the technical difference is shocking, what do our coaches teach our kids? Those Bilbao players were all adept at trapping the ball and passing it off quickly and kept on moving.

Man Utd's players couldn't pass to each other. Ashley Young looks like bambi on ice in Europe, Ferdinand is past it, as is Evra, Evans is hot and cold. Carrick goes into his shell when he's up against a midfield that presses him, Giggs has done nothing this season,

How on earth are we top of the league?

I agree to an extent. But I tend not to over react to the poor performances. United were dysmal against far inferior teams than Bilbao and made Benfica and Basle look class. Man U are in another transition period. And have been poor in the prem all season too.

I agree, its just beyond me that we are top of the league but what bothers me the most is this loss in concentration we keep doing, this rarely happened in any of Fergie's other teams, apart from Barthez. At least Man City went out.

I must say the Europa League games are more exciting than the Champions league games though.
