Religion = Evil [RIP Dr. George Tiller]

While I was deliberately inciting you all, I generally do not care for football.

I wouldn't say it sucks and I hate it, because the fact that other people like it doesn't affect me one way or the other (unlike religion).

I do find it amusing that the whole country seems to shut down when an "important" match is on. I just continue to work in those scenarios.

In fact, I posted a Facebook update when that Manchester United international match was on the other day, saying "Next time someone asks me the secret to my success, I'll say it's because I continue to work every time the rest of the country watches 'the match'" :D It got it's fair share of lols.

What I don't get though, is how people let events that they aren't directly involved with at all, affect their mood and disposition to the point where it affects other people. I just don't get that at all.

Like, for example, two cousins of mine in particular spring to mind. They live a few hours travel away, so I don't see them very often. It's enjoyable when they come to visit, we are of a similar age and get on well. They'll come to Birmingham and congregate at my Aunt's house (which is basically the family HQ) and we'll catch up and have a laugh. But woe betide anyone if there's been a Man Utd game on and Man Utd have lost. Those guys will be quiet, sulky, moody, and no fun at all. I mean WTF is up with that? It's not like they're betting money or anything.

How can it dictate your mood to that degree, it's just weird! I dictate my own mood. If I'm ever unhappy, it's because something has directly dictated my unhappiness. Like I've had an argument with my wife, or a show I was doing got postponed, or something that directly affects me. Sometimes you hear of people killing themselves because the team that they support haven't won! It's fucking craziness!

Occasionally I relent in the circumstances of a World Cup final, or something of that degree. I consider those important because they have clear, direct economical repercussions for both the winning and losing teams. I remember watching that game with France and Italy, in 2006. We watched that at my managers house because he is French and I think his wife is part Italian so there was a conflict within the same family, which was amusing. And of course it was amusing when the French fellow headbutted the other guy. And I remember watching Brazil play at one point and being impressed with Ronaldinho. He had a clear sense of style and finesse that I hadn't seen before.

I had a little more interest that year because my band had one of our songs in the official FIFA World Cup videogame. I had been sent a free copy of the game by EA Sports (I think it's them that make it), and had played it a few times just to see how regularly the song appeared. Of course, when I watched the final that year some of the players names stood out because I'd seen them in the game.

Aside from that I have no interest in the game whatsoever. It has perplexed people in the past. My dad took me to an FA Cup final when I was younger - I think he hoped it would spark more of an interest but it really didn't. Different strokes for different folks. Music is my be all and end all in life, and occasionally even my personal relationships suffer due to it, so I don't have any time or room or motivation for anything else. :D

That said, I wish you football fans the best outcome for your respective, generally geographically based supporting of teams. If all of you could win all the time, I'd be in favor of that. But clearly that isn't how the system works lol.

I think its apt that a Dutch footballer should have the next say:

"I don't believe in God. In Spain all 22 players make a sign of the cross upon entering the pitch, if it works the game is always going to be a tie" - Johan Cruyff

if Cruyff made the sign of the cross before entering the pitch, Holland might not have lost to the Germans in 74 and Argentina in 78.

*waits for Duke to go crazy*

:D

Everyone is still trying to make the same points they've tried to make before. Everyone is too closed-minded to see someone else's point. Religious or non-religious, we won't agree. Please, give it up.

I can safely say I have never utilised the "subscribe to this thread" option.

Let's find someone who does and point and laugh at them.

I meant like, when you reply to a topic, and you're updated every time something is said in that thread, lol. Not actually clicking the button, just contributing and getting the updates...

Fuck you all. <3
