So I want to buy a dog. I live in a 3 1/2 appartment so obviously I need a small dog and tbh I don't have time to walk it every day.

So I went to the store. I fell in love with 2 dogs, a grey chihuahua and a light brown teckel. So I need to make a choice.

I do know in the long run the teckel will have back issues which may need a surgery. The teckel is $500 and the chihuahua is $700.

Tough decision.

A chihuahua is a stuck-up-ho dog. Take the teckel. Theyre fun.

Even better, get a cat.

EDIT: Go to the pound.

I have a Teckel, long haired. They're actually called Dachshunds. They generally bark often since they're watch dogs (hard to believe, but true), but they're good dogs. They're actually used for hunting badgers. A little too prideful at times, but loyal.

^How old? Any back problems so far? The one I saw was short haired. I don't want long haired animals because of maintenance and my bf is allergic to those. My concern is back problems. Apparently they can't go up the stairs too much as well.

I also wonder how expensive is it with both races for veterinary visits.

Teckel are prone to back problems due to their body structure. Up to now, he has no problems, he's 2-3yrs old I believe. Just watch the stairs, if you have many stairs, try to carry him up or down. Else from that, they're quick dogs, I've seen mine outrun the Golden Retriever we had. They burrow dogs.

As for prices, I can't really say... My step-dad got it for my mom when my gramps died. She was depressed, and it helped her. Expect to pay a few 100 for one of them though. As for vet bills, the same as any other kind of dog, mine's been good for the moment. Hasn't had to have many check ups, compared to the Collie I had.

If you're looking for a tougher dog, go with the Dachshund, if you're looking for something more... well, girly girl. Chichuahua it is.

i would have had the teckel but the back issue turns me off. i don't want to worry about my dog having back issues. right now i'm leaning more for the chihuahua. it's not about being girly girl, it's about having a small dog. and i always thought chihuahuas looked like rats but i fell in love with the one i saw. the moment i had it in my arms i was in love. it's adorable.

^^i think they are a better looking dog and would be perfect for someone living in a small apartment.

as i said, i dont care too much about either breed

Golden Retrievers, Labradors, Springer Spaniels would be my favorite breeds of dog.

^^are they vicious? i have never seen one.
Nope, not at all. They're known to be 'Gentle Giants' ... At this go-kart place I'd go. It would walk around greeting people.

They're great dogs if you have the room for em. Always wanted one, and scare the living crap out of people, even though they're harmless lol
