Apparently it is pretty much Vista but actually running smoothly. Also whoever bought Vista should be able to upgrade for free.

That's what i heard.
Then I might upgrade if it's free. But when we upgrade do we lose our files, programs and whatnot?

Vista isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I've had it for a year and a half and it suffers from the same things all Windows have suffered from. It's nothing new. The media just makes it sound worse than what it really is. It isn't really that stable to switch all work computers to, but for someone that doesn't do a whole lot of work on the comp, it should be fine.

So it's a half ass product that can't be used to it's promised potential.

I didn't say it was perfect. But the only people that should be upset are those that planned on using it in the workplace. The people I hear complain about Vista:

-People I go to school with
-People on here

Neither of which have jobs. To browse SH and the rest of the internet, to listen to music, and to write papers for class, you don't need Vista. If you have Vista, though, you're not hurting until you have to deal with the compatibility issues.

If Vista crashes on you, well....all computers crash. Vista isn't XP. It hasn't been out as long as XP. Remember when people bitched about XP at first? Windows 98 was "the shit" and no one would switch to the fancier OS? Well, who's on XP's dick now? The people that will complain about 7's compatibility issues until they finally switch over again.

Point being: XP> Vista, but Vista isn't the worst thing in the world for those that have it. Computers don't always take of everything they need to of themselves. Sometimes you have to get your hands dirty and fix shit yourself. If you can do that, Vista isn't that much worse than XP.

I never really have any problems with my computers, had a few hardware problems but nothing caused by the OS. Whenever I fix computers because the client has a software issue, its normally because they've installed tonne of worthless shite on their computers full of malious coding and spyware. Alot of people just don't know how to look after their PCs properly.
I agree, I've had my desktop running XP for nearly 4 years or so and have only had issues once or twice that were easily sorted.

However, I fucking hate Vista. We bought a laptop a year or so ago that came with Vista, for my wife.

Literally, all she does with it is look at websites and use Microsoft Office. and yet we've had an insane amount of issues with it. Personally I think it's a bloated and unstable OS. That's why I'm putting Windows 7 on there today.

Just an update and a little back story.

This laptop is a compaq and it came with Vista. Oh wow was it crappy, it would crash and just suck, I hated it. It was just terrible, if I had actually bought the laptop Id probably have taken it back. But I didnt buy it, so instead I installed XP on it and it ran fine.

I since got a macbook and this has been gathering dust.

I decided to install Windows 7 on there for fun and see how it turned out.

To me surprise and excitement this beta is a lot more stable than Vista was when it was already released, and runs just as well as XP.

As far as I can tell, it runs as well as XP yet has all the bells and whistles of Vista, and more so (task bar is a lot better).

I am having one or two buys, but they are nVidia driver related it seems. Screen flicks on and off on log off and log on, nothin major.

Windows 7, so far, rocks.

It's true that Vista suffers from the same stuff that every new Windows OS suffered from, but you can't keep our two-minutes Hate on Windows away from us.

Caesar, did you back up the files on the laptop? if not, were they still there when you installed Windows 7? My wife's laptop doesnt have much stuff on it, but she still wants to back it up before I put W7 on there.

Im not sure sorry, I wiped the hard drive on this laptop a long time ago as it wasnt one I used anymore.

I suggest you back it up.

From what I remember it should be fine though, the install asks you to make a partition much like OS X. So I assume if you make a partition on some free space it will just install there.

But seriously, back it all up anyway, do a fresh install to make sure it runs the best it can, and put everything back on.

dilla, that's not correct, I've installed OS's before and not lost files. But, better safe than sorry. It shouldn't take long, I don't even think there's any MP3's on there, just photos from her digital camera.

Thanks Caesar.

It's like hating on Vista is the cool thing to do, lol. I've used it for a while now and I really don't have any complaints. Could I do without it asking me if I wanna do something? Yeah, but it doesn't take that much effort to click yes.

As far as trying it, I don't know. I've never installed a new OS on my computer.. so I don't know where to begin. How safe is it? Would I be able to use Vista again if I didn't like it? I don't have an actual disc.. I bought the computer with Vista already on it.

You should have a disc somewhere linx. AFAIK all computers that have been bought legitimately come with a backup installation disc in case the OS fucks up and needs reinstalling.

As far as hating on Vista goes, like I said I've had numerous problems with it that I shouldn't have, considering the laptop is barely used. Clearly I'm not the only person to have problems with it. I'm not jumping on any hate Vista bandwagon, just calling it how I see it.

A lot of companies don't provide disks now. :(
