I think because growing up without a father puts you in an environment where Hip-Hop is something we can relate to and we are forced to live through or do things, as well as being exposed to things, that are discussed and even glorified within rap music.
We grow up listening to rap music because we relate to it and then once we realize that we are living what we are listening to we start communicating our stories, pains, hopes and dreams through music or poetry as well and thus some of us become rappers.
It is a cycle.
