To you English speaking people.

poor spelling and grammar really bothers me as well. although i do concede that i make mistakes, some are just inexcusable.

for example, one of my aim buddies online just had an away message up and this is what it said:

"im here posubly laying in the sun"

yes, you read that correctly. she was trying to say "possibly"

she is 23 and currently in college. i have to wonder if she's retarded?

Somebody must of really annoyed you to get you to make this thread. Still, you could of (and maybe should of) put your point across a bit more respectfully.

You have to except that a lot of people make mistakes, because English is a complicated language. Doesn't mean they're all alliterate.
Did they even notice your mistakes?

Alright, now I'm a Euro. English is my second language, okay?

Will you people PLEASE stop saying "would of". It's a contraction of "would HAVE". HAVE, people, HAVE. HAVE gets shortened to "ve". Not of. Would of does not exist, capiche?

You've just been corrected by a foreigner. Now go sit in a corner and be ashamed. You know who you are.
Actually it is 'would've' that sounds like you are saying 'would of' - lol :p

I speak 3 languages and then some. English is far from complicated. If anything i have to come across a language easier than English.

I think duke is misinterpreting the common english suffixes. Words are often shortened with use of a comma ' . So 'would have' becomes 'would've'. The comma indicates an omission of letters. In this case 'ha' before 'have'. So what you have is two words connected into one, with the use of a comma. Would have becomes would've. And it would sound like you are saying the words 'would of'. Sit down, swallow, and digest those x and y's, lol.

He's not. His English is better than yours, which is probably why you're misinterpreting his words, so he knows. There you go again, patronizing someone :) And I'm sure that, unlike you, Duke knows it's not called a comma but an apostrophe, like Illuminattile pointed out.

Damn you Chronic, you always criticize my posts. Comma/apostrophe - they both look the same anyways. My English is impecable, though the nuances are easily confusing. English people don't say 'would of' we say 'would've'. That is what I was pointing out.

Duke said what you just said, he just wasn't being as specific. Saying "would have" automatically covers "would've" and any other variation of the two words.

Your arrogance gets to me :) Whenever you feel compelled to condescendingly educate people I feel compelled to point out that you're in no position to. For example, your last post:

He's not talking about people saying 'would of', he's talking about people writing 'would of'. In this case when he said 'saying' he meant 'writing'. Words can mean different things, this is called a homonym. So it's you that misinterpreted things. Now you can argue that it was easy to confuse the word 'saying' but alas there is no spelling in speech, only in words so what you said would still be irrelevant.

A comma and an apostrophe do not look the same. Perhaps if you'd draw them on a blank piece of paper you wouldn't be able to tell the difference but it's a symbol. They have a specific place on a line:

, '.

If you noticably misplace a comma or apostrophe on an exam it will be marked as wrong.

Your English is impecable? Then why did you spell impeccable with one c?

So like I said, if you for example feel the need to patronize Duke and assume he doesn't know something you do I'll feel the need to point out that he actually knows more than you do and your arrogance is misplaced.

As a philosopher you should appreciate it. It's the concept of karma in action. You send out negative energy and negative energy gets sent to you.

Whatever ... you are all still learning, that's how I see it. Tomorrow I will be all the wiser, and so should you.

Keco, 'loser' doesn't figure in my vocabulary.

Your illusions of grandeur are pretty humorous and sickening at the same time.

All still learning? Compared to you right? In a little arrogance of my own, although I'm only a couple of years your junior I'm light years ahead of you intellectually. The reason why you're so fascinated by philosophy and think everyone should emerge themselves in it to truly change their life is because it provides a crutch for your weak mind. Philosophy has some amazingly mind-blowing stuff but whatever you've learned is stuff that most people think off on a sunday afternoon.

I'm actually saying this for your benefit: your discovery of philosophy has severely cut your ties with reality. It certainly brought far more to your attention but damnit did it give you some serious eye-blinders.

Whatever was a great counter-argument by the way.
