The guy is in critical condition and is paralyzed, really goes to show my faith in humanity.

Kitty Genovese-esque.

In their defence, what should they have done? Trying to move him would have done more harm than good, and you could clearly see people calling for an ambulance on their phones.

Wow I don't believe it. I love my country right now. Whenever I see someone in an accident or passing out there's always a group of people trying to help him and now I see that it's something to appreciate.

How can I defend him? Immediate first aid - securing the place of accident, checking if he's breathing and putting him in the safe stance (considering he might have injured spine) is what I would definitely do.

that's exactly what you don't do if there's a possible back injury. "Don't move him!!!" basically.
You don't move him but you have to gently put him in the "safe stance" when he lies like that. I had my first aid course done.
If he was concius it'd be okay but he could choke himself there.

I dont think people not caring is the only explanation. A lot of it has to do with people being afraid of getting involved or blamed for something or questioned, just afraid of what will happen if they draw any attention to themselves.

All this bullshit actions from the Police, people being blamed, shit, the amount of times Ive heard "we know you were involved so just confess" in my years is staggering, even when I was just around the situation (running clubs puts you in spots like that). Then of course when its obvious I wasnt they move on to accusing the next person until somebody breaks and confesses, that is how Police investigations work.

Plus the whole inform on your neighbor mentality has society fucked up, people are afraid to step out of line, even to help somebody else.

I heard this spooky story about some guy, in America of course lol, who tried to help some dude who needed first aid. While doing it he broke the dude's ribs, but saved his life by bringing him back. He still got sued over the broken ribs, though.

Maybe an urban myth, but I see it happening.

Ya those type of stories are true Preach, especially in America, hence why no one runs to someone’s aid, what if the guy had a broken back and someone moved him and caused more complications, well if the guy survives there is almost a 100% chance your going to be catching a lawsuit from him.

Nah, it seemed like he had a race or something. You cant really expect him to stop just because he fucking hit a man with his car.

If I walked buy I would be shouting 'Green cross code motherfucker!'. But really, someone should have booked him for jaywalking. lol

People today are just afraid of getting involved. Some are afraid because of a lawsuit if they do anything to further injure the person and also they don't want to get involved with what happened i.e. going to court, giving a statement to cops.

Also you do not move a person unless he is in more risk of getting hurt. In this case you do not move him, stop traffic on the lane he is lying and wait until EMT's arrive at the scene.
