I don't think it's fair of you to say that. I would never think you're Dominican for I have never met a Dominican here. You can't expect that much of people. I can't expect people to think I'm not Russian; hell, I can't expect people to think I'm not American.
It's not about being self-absorbed, it's because of a lack of cultural awareness, to an extent. You can't learn in school what a "Dominican" looks like. You were thought of as African-American on this board for a long time until you stated a couple of times that you're not.

I agree and I try not to think in that way.
However, it's also not fair for people to assume that every Black person they come in contact with is African American, or every Latino person they come in contact with is Mexican, etc.
I said it was being self-absorbed because if you live in a diverse place like NY City, anywhere in CA almost, Chicago, etc.. you should at least know a bit about the people who you interact with on a daily basis. The fact that people would rather assume than just ask seems like self-absorption to me. I may be wrong, but that's just how I see it. It doesn't register on their internal blue print of importance. But I dunno. This is waaay off topic. LOL, sorry i'm at work bored.
