Hi.

I am able to upgrade my current phone out of the following selections for free.

Nokia E71
iPhone (i think so anyway)
Samsung F480

The other phones i can choose from are pretty ordinary. These are the best.

And no, I don't have the option of an Android.

Please help.

Reps to those who do.

Samsung F480 is like the phone i have (samsung omnia). The big touch screen is pretty cool, it's good if you use the internet on your phone. So in that respect it would be better than the nokia one (unless you like a big keyboard?). Would you use the apps on the iphone? I dont know, what else does it have going for it other than a bunch of shit you can download which is already available on the internet...?

out of those the E71 is good. my brother has it and its decent and cost-effective. its just limited to what it can do like android os phones. same with the iphone.

i dont think they will give you a free upgrade to apple iphone, because they are very reluctant to give things away free unless they only give you the option of signing up to an expensive 18 or 12 month tariff in which case you probably get the handset for free. may depend on the mobile network you're purchasing from and they may be reluctant like o2 were when i enquired.

not too sure about the tocco - the specs on there are good though.

not sure which country you're in, but t-mobile over here are doing some excellent deals on android phones which are really taking the market by storm and the G1 deal im on is very cost effective. im struggling to use up all my minutes and my texts are unlimited and i'll find it difficult to own another phone which is better unless i get a third gen G1 (who knows what it will be named as) on android by the time i finish my contract.

Id recommend the iPhone, best phone i've ever owned.

Number one reason would be ease of use. Syncing with your computer is simple. Really easy to navigate around and the multi touch screen works exactly like you'd expect.

Full blown web browser, none of this "mobile web" crap. Sync all computer bookmarks with it. Desktop-class email. GPS-powered Google Maps.

Photos/Movies/Music, its the best ipod ever, viewing photos and movies is awesome with the large screen. syncing photos and movies is really easy.

And the biggest reason to get the iPhone is of course the app store. Thousands of applications you can download ranging from facebook messaging, aim/msn clients, games, MS Office, Tom Tom have just released an app which turns the iphone into a proper full GPS with turn by turn directions.

I think the iPhone has more going for it than any other smart phone ive seen or used. Its got the same or better features then every other phone ive seen but the reason I originally picked it was because of how it operates.

Hope this helps.

Ok, lets see what kind of suggestions you have so far:

Amara: Samsung
Sandeep: E71
3en: IPhone

...and Casey choosing the non-availabe option Android.

Seems like a helpful thread.

I have a Samsung, so go for the F480.

Well, none of them are too great.

E71 is nothing special.

With F480 you get a great camera but it doesn't have Wifi and the display is not too good (240 x 320 pixel). It's not even as good as Omnia.

Are there really no other options?

i'm rocking a blackberry curve smartphone. it does most things the iphone does but with a full qwerty keyboard and touchpad. wifi connection with choice of internet browsers, app downloads plus all the other usual functions but in blackberry's own style. it is like having a pocket-laptop. plus i'm tired about hearing about iphone's so i chose to own a blackberry, it's awesome, best thing about a blackberry phone is that multiple applications can be run at the same time, while being able to switch between them as quick as it takes to push a button, there's no waiting to close one application to access another, blackberry ftw

If you want something with a lot of games and entertaining apps, a good browsing experience, and dont mind a touch screen keyboard go the iPhone.

If you want something with lots of apps and some good games, a good browsing experience, best email of any device and a full qwerty keyboard get a Blackberry.

If you want a combination of both in a bigger form, but in my opinion doesnt do either quite as well as the above (yet), get the G1, which in my opinion is good to great at everything but the best at nothing (yet).

the G1 provides a better browsing experience than the iPhone and the email on it is quite good (gmail that is). havent seen the blackberry's email service, though i have seen their IM service.

Agreed. The browsing experience on the G1 is comparable to any other phone IMO.

And Gmail's email service can take on the Blackberry email service any day. You don't have to use an @Gmail.com account either, you can add any POP3 or IMAP account and use Gmail with it.

RIM are losing market share to Android even more than Apple are right now. Android has gotten the same worldwide market share as RIM in a little under 12 months.

Once Android 2.0 hits in December with devices as powerful as the Motorola Sholes and the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X3, the mobile OS market is basically done for anyone other than Google and Apple.

If RIM stopped trying to win back customers that have migrated to Apple and Android with fail devices like the Storm and upcoming Storm 2, they'd be doing a lot better right now. Right now the Bold is the only serious smartphone contender out of their entire range.

By that, you mean they've seen the same growth in a 12-month period?

You're not saying that RIM and Android have the same share of the market overall, right?
