Why Strawberry?

I want to know who decided that Strawberry ice cream would become a part of the Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry power three?

OK I get the color aesthetic and all, but seriously, why Strawberry? Why not Cherry? Or Raspberry? Or a combination?

What is so special about Strawberry anyway and who made this decision for the rest of humanity?

Because when it came over from Naples in the 19th century, those were the 3 most popular flavors in the US. But in Naples other flavors were sometimes used. So, as usual, the US made the decision for the rest of humanity.

I myself hate strawberry ice cream, and as a kid, I would dig out the choc and vanilla from a square gallon container and leave a full middle layer of strawberry unsupported on either side.

I had some Ben and Jerry's ice cream last night, it was good. Now that I think about it, it could be the reason why my throat is sore.

[puff inserts gay joke here].

dyk that ice cream is an egg custard. It is the same recipe just cooked differently, then flavour added. Chefs cooking tip for the day.

It could also be that strawberry was relatively cheaper to make than say raspberry or cherry. Just a theory. Cherry ice cream is disgusting though, I can see how that isn't in the combination, bleh.
