Non-Urban Music What are you listening to RIGHT NOW? (New Rules)

I don't use this site in the way you want to use it so I don't know if it shall please you but try:

http://sputnikmusic.com/AltIndie

It's a general review site with a newsfeed. I selected 'Alt/Indie' (in the top red bar) so it's already set for that scene. Underneath the top red bar you'll see "New Releases". Again that gives you the option of 'All' or just 'Alt/Indie' and other genres. You can also check out 'Charts'.

If you're interested in grabbing older releases as well, try this:

http://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Alternative+Rock/ <-- Alternative rock. At the bottom it has a list of every album on the site tagged with 'Alt rock' in chronological order, which can be interesting if you're looking into the history of the genre. On the right you can specify a subgenre within Alt Rock and next to that you can check out Top Releases. The good thing about the Top Releases on this site is the fact that votes are weighted. If a bunch of fanboys sign on to up-vote something their votes don't count as much as proper members.

And the indie rock section http://rateyourmusic.com/genre/Indie+Rock/

Thanks gentleman. Should keep me going for the next little while.

Indie rock cafe is what I have been using for anyone who is interested.

That rateyourmusic site, the top albums section in indie rock? Yeah man. Wow. Not saying I've heard every one of them, but the albums you haven't heard on that list, you need to hear 'em.

I'm still waiting for Mike Doughty material. You have 13 days left.

If you want to download songs/albums: Soulseek.

It's very user-driven, you download directly from other people. The downside of this is that if you aren't sharing yourself you might get banned and people can go offline (which means trying at a later time might get better results) but ultimately I wouldn't want to use anything else. It very clearly shows the songs' title, length and bitrate (if you see one song "01 - song title" and another "03-artist-album-song title" or just different bitrates it might mean the person has different rips and not download it), I've found 99% of albums I've ever looked for on there (save for some underground hip-hop tapes) and with a bit of luck you'll find someone with a high download speed.

So Da_Funk you could use that to get Mike Doughty material. If you end up using the material don't use any '-' (hypen) in the title because the program takes that to mean you wish to exclude something. Just type in the artist and album name and you'll get a list. Best downloads will be the ones with a high download speed (obviously) that are marked in black. Results in gray will mean that you'll be in a queue (low queues are also a good option). If the download doesn't start immediately you can select the tracks (in your 'Transfers' section), right click and 'Get place in line'. It will usually but not always gives a number as to what number the song is in the queue (it won't refresh so the number stays).

It might take some getting used to but it's a very simple program. Highly recommended.

Right? Excellent site if you're looking for new music. Just pick a genre and you're off.

^Thank you very much, sir.

I just sent you the first five songs off the album he put out last year. It's a miracle I can even log into Streethop. I really am a luddite.
I always had faith in you, Ristol. I really, really like "Na Na Nothing". I think I'll pick up a couple of his albums once I'm across the pond.

Everyone has probably heard this one but it just came on the radio and it's too good not to post so enjoy:

Lots of people prefer the Johnny Cash cover (which is great in its own respect), but it will never be the original by Trent.

Especially when you listen to the album in its entirety, it gives "Hurt" that extra kick in da nutz
