two things that struck me, firstly

Christopher Columbus * was not the first person to discover the western world.

and secondly, Mari-Anne twanete (sp*) - (French revoloution)

Did not say over a balcony 'if you cannot afford bread, eat cake' or wat ever the line was. That was just a myth.

So why do teachers teach this false facts.

Most of us know that Christopher Colombus wasn't the first person to discover the Americas, but can you prove that what Marie Antoinette said wasn't true?

Columbus wasn't even Italian as previously thought. He was Spanish. And yes, there's many things wrong with the history books which are still being taught in schools. But hey... you live, you learn, right?

And a related thing which is probably only meaningful to Australians - there are suposedly "records" that suggest the Chinese came to Australia during the Zheng He voyages back in the 15th Century, even though the British still take the credit for the "discovery".

(Chinese probably took one look at the shitty desert and thought, nah fuck it.....).

Some people think the Chinese discovered America as well, but the voyages by Zheng He were about diplomacy, not conquest.

Yes, I know. It is a shame that the voyages had to cease.

....must have been some incredible naval engineering....:(

I'd be interested to read that book, "1421: the Year China discovered the World" but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Can we get back to the point of this thread (lies in school)?

I can't think of any lies/inaccuracies right now, but I'll keep thinking.
hiding under your desk during a nuclear attack won't save you
