Way too cool

Alright, another youtube video. But since the highly intellectual A-Ha wittyness didn't catch on, I picked something more low-level and much cooler.

One of my favorite YouTube videos. Ever, probably.

No hidden point, no dry wit, no intellectualism. Just 1 minute 13 of absolute kick-ass-ness.

If you don't like this, you should die.

The first F-14 that comes along. The sound is incredible. It's a wall. Those boys were hauling some serious ass!

And the Rafale pilot @ 1:05 is just utterly insane. Safety margin of about 30 feet on such a manouevre is just incredible.

Cool stuff.

But nothing beats Achmed the Dead Terrorist. I don't wanna post the video thinking I'm ruining your thread though.

You know, I watch these kinds of videos and they mention the speeds of these crafts but I never really tried to fully comprehend the power until I discovered the wonderful built-in flight simulator on Google Earth - flew the F16 in the simulator over my 30 minute commute route in roughly 3 seconds.

I want a fighter jet for christmas

Some of the vids claim the jet is going 700 mph, but it really doesn't look much different from watching a car on a highway go 70 mph.

700? A Jet? 700mph for a jet is like a cruise. A high speed flight is more likely to be 2mach which is more than 2100km/h (nearly 1400mph).
On this video you could clearly see the vapor cone meaning their speed wasn't low.

Right, well 700 mph is close to Mach but it still didn't seem to be going that fast. That's what I was trying to say.

that's awesome. i live near an air-field, before it got turned into an airport that is, so i grew up around planes and going to plane shows etc, there is even an old aircraft museum near where i live. Airfix models were a thing of my youth, and the models often got strung from the room cieling with fishing-line wire. Have seen the red-arrows many times, and my favourite harrier jump jet:

the only verticle take of craft of its kind. my grandparents had a friend that took hundreds of plane photos on film as well as slides, and me and my bro used to get them given to us for nothing, RAF finningly it was

that's fuckin' crazy where the plane dips close to the surface of the ground/sea then just tips it's nose up, even crazier flying metres obove/between solid objects like ships or buildings.

a dumb but questionable question i heard someone i know say recently is - why did kamikaze pilots wear helmets? ... answer: because of the air pressure in the plane dumb ass, not because they wanted to protect their head, lmao

700mph is well over Mach 1, but at sea level requires ridiculous power. Absolute top speeds are at high altitude (thinner air etc) and even there aren't many that will do mach 2.

I think the F14's, with probably the exception of the one low on the water pulling the wake, were doing Mach 1+. You can see the F-18 clearly forming a cone meaning it's in transsonic flight, and the other one after that (not sure what it is from the distance) actually going through the barrier as the booms are audible.

@ Yeshua: I lived near airbases as well, now here and back in Enschede/Twente also. Been to a few airshows. Incredible spectacle, thats for sure.
The Airshow of the Open Days of the Dutch air force is often held at Leeuwarden (where I live now) and it seems it's a high end show. All the big acts come to town, Patrouille Suisse, Patrouille France, Red Arrows, the Italians.

Three years ago we had the Blue Angels with the very last european performance of their Fat Albert c-130. They did the JATO takeoff with it. To date the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

And I dunno why kamikaze pilots wore helmets, probably because it went with the rest of the gear. In those days aircraft weren't pressurized yet. At least not the fighters.

yeah I just mean that 700mph is not a super-high speed for a jet. F-22 can easily reach more than 2 mach. There are also a few faster jets. When I was a kid I was fascinated with military and airplanes. I was a know-it-all about jets kid heh

They we breaking mach 1 over the coast too.. you could see the vapour cone.. I got some crazy pics Ill upload when I get the chance

The F22 is crazy fast, wouldn't call that a yardstick for military jets. Sadly for the US military, it's also redundant, lol.

yeah but they couldn't know that it'll be useless, same with Soviet nukes lol
At least f-22 is a beautiful plane.

It does look pretty damn cool. I think the Russian built new Suchoi's are some of the best ever looking planes, though. I dunno but they look awe-inspiring.
