True, who you connect with is very subjective and I'd be a real dickhead to try and counter that. Personally I think some of Eminem's lyrics are just plain funny and I like that aspect to his music e.g. There is that song where he talks about going to Jessica Simpson's house and making a 'peanut butter jelly chicken tuna sandwhich' That always cracks me up. Aaaaaaaanyhoo after hearing 'lose yourself', 'mosh' , 'renegade' and other similar songs by Eminem, I wondered why he didnt use such a direction to his music. The message, production & lyrical content is really deep in my opinion. Would he sell less if thats the kind of songs he put out?
Also true is that 2pac talked about cars money and bitches but as a fan I tend to overlook that fact coz maybe he didnt overdo it? As you put it he had a balance. My aunty told me chronic 2001 is a good LP but she couldnt stand the way they reffered to women on that. Ladies love 2pac coz he sang for them. Lets say his timing when he brought up those three aspects was reasonable e.g 'How do you want it' starts off as a sex song but the theme changes as the song progresses.
I also think he was just more responsible when he talked about such stuff. E.g he talks about sleeping with women and also mentions consequences e.g. teenage pregnacy, abortion & HIV in another song. On another song he recognises pregnancy as a blessing during hard times so maybe people shouldnt look at is as: 'unwanted'.
Money was just what it is and he wanted to be a millionaire. However, with the amount of money that was reportedly in his account when he died, he had a long way to go thanks to Death Row. He does mention on some songs the aspect of a woman loving him when he is broke. (I still think money isnt everything to only a magnificently small, decimal type percentage of women in the world today :fury: )
Cars is definately something he had a love for though I never did understand why he had a landcruiser in his collection. That car dont look good from any angle
Ok, so we all agree that he did mention the cars, money and bitches but not like some other rappers do it.
Talib Kweli, Mos Def & Lupe Fiasco are definateley doing something different in hiphop and I like some of their music. They certainly aint gonna sell like Em or 50 but they still believe in what their music is about, aint selling out and I respect that :thumb:
