Thug Life LP Comes In At #11 As One Of Hip Hop's Most Underrated Classic LP's!!

with regard to the underrating of thug life, it's actually very simple... when the album came out 2pac had recorded two videos (cradle and pour liq) but basically his sentencing completely destroyed promo opportunities for the album. it don't stop and how long will they mourn me received minimal video play and next to zero radio play. the paramount problem, however, was that short of the people who knew what thug life was, there was no sticker of otherwise identifying sign of 2pac on the cover or back. i remember when makaveli came out there were stickers everywhere stating 2pac is... makaveli, exit 2pac enter makaveli, etc. interscope dropped the ball in marketing this cd without highlighting that it is a 2pac + these guys group effort. ...after all, do you think still i rise would have sold more than 3 dozen units if they hadn't put "2pac +" right smack dab in the upper left?

that candyman was a pretty lame rapper completely unrelated to candyman187. hit up amazon to listen to his snips.

.:thumb: Well said. Now I feel a little relief because of your explanation and some closure. But damn, I think this album is still not fully platinum yet. I just don't understand why there are so many pac fans, but yet this album is some of pac's best works ever, but it's still only maybe platinum or below. With these millions of pac fans around the world after his death in 96' you'd think they'd know by now that "Thug Life" is a pac album. This album is listed in all his album discography sections. Some of the songs were on his Greatest Hits-Two of the songs were on the "Ressurection" sndtrk. I mean, I just don't understand why it's still underrated and doesn't at least receive recognition from 2pac fans. This album is an Illmatic type caliber album imo.

So if that was the case then was "Out On Bail" supposed to be a single off of that album. Was that the original plan that pac may have had that Interscope may have changed. I mean he did perform it at the 94' Source Awards, so I'm just wondering.

And someone also said earlier that with all the pac fans out there, does it still make sense for the album to be underrated and be sort of low in sales? That's a great question.

^^ the problem is that interscope destroyed it. they changed the name from out on bail to the generic vol 1 and remixed several tracks to be more uptempo and friendly. 1) the remix of cradle was cool, but the og had a lot more bite to it. likewise, being that pac had recorded so much for this album, it would have been smart to add on a few more songs. ...2) it was almost an ep, especially if you consider just he 2pac songs. this album could have been done a lot better, but it's still a classic that in many ways began 2pac's west coast sound.

2) Technicaly, it's a group album. I wouldn't look especially at Pac track to know how many song should be on the album. And for the only 10 tracks... well a fair amount of good album have only 10 songs on it.

Conclusion: Thug life is a classic album behind MATW but that's only my opinion here

i agree with both points, but the fact is that interscope forced the remixing of that track, so i'd not have minded a video edit vs og on the album so much. just knowing that interscope's backlash to the whole ice-t thing and gangsta rap as a whole resulted in changing pac's project rather sucks. likewise, cut songs like runnin' and the alternate takes of several songs that have not yet leaked out to the public yet (you'll love them if they ever drop) really underscore how much better an already amazing album could have been.

Why do people like "Cradle 2 The Grave" og so much? The LP version was fine imo. If the og version was to be on the current version of "Thug Life", I'd skip it. The production was weak to me.

There's the scan, which says it's expected out in Spring, 94. Not sure when the Papa'z song single was actually released on single though, but i would have to assume very early 94, since the case or vinyl doesn't say 1993 anywhere (not sure how accurate these dates are anyway). And of course, to advertise something out for spring, would make sense to have the season before at the most

Because it isn't. This one and "Whut? Thee album" are recognize classics by almost everyone and are the most often mentionned when asked about best Red album

Yeah promotion controls so much especially at that time in Pac's career because he wasnt as recognised as now. Like most of Pac's albums recently havent had the best promotion but still do good in sales.

I havent seen any AZ video's but still I really love Aziatic, some songs could have been left off but for the most part its a good album imo.
