The Thug in Me

Is it correct to assume that the TRUE original of Thug In Me is over a beat that is similar to Letter 2 My Unborn (UTEOT version)?

If the above is correct, how did the "OG" of Thug in Me that everyone has come about? Did they decide to try Pac's vocals over 2 beats? I feel like the Thug In Me OG we all have right now is so perfect and sacrosanct that I could never imagine it not being the real thing. I feel like the released versions of Thug in Me are the biggest screw ups of all the Amaru remixed tracks.

You could tell if you hear the interview where he's talking about doing a remix to Whatz Ya Phone # that Pac definitely intended to release Thug in Me as a single (he begins the part on it very excited and prefaces it with "I got a song coming out..."). Its a shame how bad it was butchered on UTEOT.

Dante said the version that we all have is actually a remix, but he never even confirmed it was Thug In Me, though it's pretty safe to say it is. I'm sure Dante will clear everything up when he sells his OGV CDs.

Yes, seeing Pac said in that interview that the original version sampled MC Lyte's "Keep On" plus he says it in the intro ("I like that beat that MC Lyte got... yo, Johnny J, flip that shit, let's do that shit Death Row-style, feel me?"). Letter 2 My Unborn samples the Michael Jackson song that "Keep On" samples. So they're all connected.

The original OG (if that makes sense) used the "Keep On" beat. They later altered it with a different beat (presumably while Pac was alive and with his knowledge) that we have been calling the OG. So it's still kind of the OG... consider the unheard version as the double-OG.

Amaru tends to do that.

I can just imagine how gud Pac must sound with those Thug In Me verses over MC Lytes beat. I remember Dante saying that Letter To My Unborn UTEOT version actually uses the beat off of the original to another song on UTEOT. I always thought he meants This Aint Livin because I thought we had the Thug In Me OG! Ah fuck this!

more reason to buy the ogv set when it's ready...
it's taken me about a month of tweaking to get one of the discs perfect. i'm aiming for quality and packaging equal to any retail release.

I know your revising some of the mixes on vol. 1-5 but can you make sure to clean up the "They Trynna Murda" mix without 3xkrazy cos it crackles all the way through it :(

Here is MC Lyte - Keep On,Keepin On feat. X-Cape video clip:

MC Lyte - Keep On,Keepin On feat. X-Cape video clip

This song was produced by Jermaine Dupri and can be found the Sunset Park Soundtrack.

The beat is straight fire,2pac had good tastes!

Perhaps that "Letter 2 My Unborn" (UTEOT Remix) beat produced by The Trackmasters was originaly destinated to remix "Thug In Me" but maybe Amaru decided that the beat fitted "Letter 2 My Unborn" lyrics better so that's why it has been used that way, only Lord knows...

Thanks for posting this! I'd never heard this song and it is interesting how much the beat resembles UTEOT's Letter 2 My Unborn. I do think Thug in Me would sound dope over a beat like that. I heard a Whizz OGV with them and it was hot, I'd recommend it.
