When I was in the USA I did a little bit of speeding on the freeways and turnpikes.... Basically I was usually doing about 130mph.

Last week someone told me I could get a large fine for that in the States.

So... How much is large?

The States I was in were - California, Florida and Nevada.... How much would I have been done for?

: )

Um.. it varies per state, i'm not 100% certain but usually there are tiers.. so 1-5 mph over is allowed to slide, 6-20mph over the limit is about $150 and over 20mph (or more) over is about $250 with a mandatory court appearance and they take your license on the spot regardless of if you have the little insurance card.. i can't remember what it's called.

Not sure how that would work with you since your license wouldn't have been issued in the country, lol. Maybe they would've let you slide as they wouldn't want to bother with the paper work.

My sister and I managed to hit 125 before I got pulled over. Cop came out gun drawn. Long story short, my sis had had him for DARE and he remembered heras being the smart one. Got off with nothing. Bought her a nacho Slim Jim and a Red Bull for her to stfu and not tell my parents.

See $150 fine would have easily been worth it. They wouldn't be able to take my licence. So.... Maybe I'd get an over inflated fine?

I was pulled over in the middle of nowhere Indiana before going about 138 lol. They took my license and fined me and I had a court date... >.< The ticket was like $236 the worst was that I had to drive all the way back to middle of nowhere Indiana for traffic court and then the officer didn't even show up.. smh.

I doubt it (over inflated fine), i'm nearly certain that they may have just let you go if you were polite. Usually if you're pulled over with an out of state license the police tend to let you go.. since yours was out of the country.. they'd probably do the same.. Unless you also had drugs or were being a d*ck.

In what car were you going 138? Your Jeep?

Foreigners are just given fines, inflated fines. My source? The Gumball Rally
My dad has been pulled over 15 times the past 11 years. He has gotten off every time because he is a doctor. The officer sees his files in the backseat and the stethoscope around his neck and just lets him go with a warning. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it happen.

Why is your dad wearing a stethoscope while he is driving? weirdo.

Pitts I'm not sure exactly and that is a difficult question to answer. Each municipality has their own fines and fees for speeding. Their is a minimum and maximum fine to that as well. Most of the time people are given the minimum fine but from what I understand and have been told is most of the time a foreigner will get fined the maximum because that's all they can do really, I assume it varies though

Some guy in my city just beat the record for largest speeding ticket ever given, I believe. He was doing 240 km/h, I think.... he got a ticket worth around 2600$. Some 20 year old kid in a BMW Suv... (Apparently, I was told, that a few days later they found out the car was stolen. The kid was a valet, he took the car and drove away lol)

It's not much about a monetary speeding fine as it is about the repercussions. For example, if you speed like 50 over speed limit here, you can be charged with reckless driving and/or racing. That might be a $500 fine, but your court costs to prevent you from losing your license will be in the thousands.

When you've worked for 30+ years with a stethoscope around your neck, it kinda becomes habit.

But he may keep it on the seat next to him and just quickly put it on when he gets pulled over. He probably just wears it when he travels between three hospitals and his two clinics. So. I'll cut him some slack

An EVO? I doubt just a regular Lancer could do that without dying afterwards.
I'll be honest, I know little about cars.. outside of standard maintenance and care stuff. Plus it was a few years back so the exact speed I put might be off. I know it started handling very badly before I started to slow down b/c of the cops. I was trying to see if I could do the dashboard speed.. IDK why. I think we were trying to see if the car would cut off or not. *shrug* teenagers.

This:

or this:

130 is pretty obvious while driving around Chicago, even the highway. That's something I'd see down here.

A bloke I work with had an Evo 8 a while back. Spent a fortune on it. Ceramic brakes. The lot. That flew up to 100 and back to 0 in 6 seconds. He then bought an RS6. Another good car. Now he drives a Passat. I think I inspired him with my Diesel A6. We all have to grow up and get sensible cheap cars at some point.

Especially when you are paying £6.15 a gallon ($9.90 - by today's exchange rate)
