Solo Artists with Groups

Just trying to think of something new and different. I was listening to D12's 'Devil's Night' album, and I've got 'D12 World' coming on next.

- How do people rate the two albums?
- How do people rate Eminem on the albums compared to his solo stuff?
- Are there any other things worth mentioning?

I wanted to hear their track they did or were meant to do with Slaughterhouse. They could've been so much greater, they had momentum as a group and their popularity peaked around the release of 'My Band'. They had some solid songs on on D12 world, although IMO it was not even close to Devil's Night.

- Are there any other Solo artists and groups you want to discuss?
- Are there any groups you like that consist of someone or something that you don't like?
- Are there any songs or albums by artists or groups that you don't like?

I think with the exception of Proof; D12 were horrible. I don’t think there’s a Bizarre verse I can listen to. Just horrible artists.

It’s really difficult for an established artist to put a good group on and have them enjoy the same success and critical acclaim and to have it stand on its own two feet without relying on the original artists fan base. I don’t think it’s actually ever been done.

Much easier to come out of a group.

Proof was the only one capable of a solo album. The rest should just be thankful they had Eminem on the team.
I actually miss Proof. Not sure if it’s on here but I interviewed him a couple weeks before he passed. We used to chat on blackberry messenger (remember that?) a LOT. That one hurt. Fuck.

Same with Fatal. I was on the phone with him that day or just before. Time difference. That killed all this shit for me.

Miss them both. Proof was a really smart guy and really funny. Real hip hop head. We’d quiz each other. Miss that old oil can.

I think Royce 5'9" has a thing for fucking his career in the ass. Slaughterhouse was a mistake and I don't even know who the other part of Prhyme is.

He was amazing as a solo artist. Rock City, Death is Certain are two albums where I listen to them almost all the way through.

I'm glad he's cool with Eminem now but that patching up was right around the time his music and beats just went way off from what they used to be. Didn't he also form a duo with Eminem in recent years? So how many groups is this dude a part of now?

Denaun is very talented. Check out his solo stuff, and he's a good producer too - one of Aftermath's best talents.

The other half of PRhyme is who many people consider the greatest Hip-Hop producer of all time.

So you've basically missed out on the greatness that is:
- All the Bar Exam mixtapes
- Street Hop
- Success Is Certain
- Trust The Shooter
- Layers
- Book of Ryan

Just PRhyme and Bad Meets Evil now that Slaughterhouse have disbanded.

I've listened to all those albums, save for maybe Book of Ryan, but I still knew it was out there. I may like one or two songs from each album, at best, but that's a far cry from Death is Certain and older albums or Royce's, where I could listen to the albums from cover to cover without skipping many songs.

I like all the members of D12 besides Bizarre. That being said I don't think I like them enough to listen to their solo stuff aside from Em of course. Definitely a group that's greater than the sum of its parts.

For me a group like Army of the Pharaohs is pretty great. You got Vinnie Paz who can obviously put out great solo stuff. Then you look at some of the other guys like Esoteric, Apathy, Celph Titled etc who are all great artists in their own right. Even some of the lesser members like Demoz and Blacastan who kill it as well.

Yeah, agreed. Since I really listen to the music before the lyrics in many songs, AOTP, JMT, and all associated artists typically have some nice, grimey beats and that's one of the main reasons I love their music.
