Paper on how Pac influenced society positively

#1
Hey, i'm doing a project on how pac influenced society positively through his music and public speakings against racism and poverty etc. Its kind of hard to find info on this so i was wondering if anyone could help me out with certain books or websites to look to for info on this. I already picked up a copy of "holler if you hear me" and that looks like my best bet from reading the overview of it, but its hard to find anything else.

i mean i know that he was a positive influence but its just hard to prove with limited reference material.

also i'm trying to pick a song of his to play in class that touches on the following subjects: showing how bad it is on the streets(murders, rape etc), the want for change (racism etc), plans for change, etc.

so if anyone could reccomend books or websites to help me out with the reference material that would be greatly appreciated. also if anyone could recommend any songs and why exactly that'd be great too.

kinda funny cuz i'm doing a paper similar to that for my final paper for my 'black social and political thought' class...'holler if you hear me' was definitely a good read. i'm using a lot internet resources, even though i've read most tupac books out there.

as far as songs go, i've been studying 'white man'z world' a lot and also, most of the stuff from his first two albums.

.sorry i'm not of much help, i'm only getting started as well.

maybe this website will help u guys out http://www.thuglifearmy.com/

Some good songs would be:
Better Dayz (mostly 1st verse)
The Good Die Young
Who Do U Believe In?
Changes (i'd probably not play this since everyone's heard this song and they'd be tired of it)

good luck :thumb:

EDIT: o yeh! Ghetto Gospel (OG) is a great song too...good thinkin FATAL N FELONY :)

The song I would pick would be U Can Be Touched (OG) his first verse is very emotinal, also Better Dayz is a good song to play. As far as books I don't know but if you pick up a copy of Tupac Resurrection I recommend the Malcolm X Dinner Speech he give a real good speech. Also the other E-mail where he talks about Ghetto Gospel its also in the Tupac Resurrections. Ghetto Gospel (OG) is also a good song. One Love.

Yeah, those are good too. I think The Good Die Young is an excellent one; I'm trying to play anything that people haven't necessarily heard before that aren't huge Pac fans, primarily unreleased stuff. So U Can Be Touched would be a good choice, for sure. I didn't think about that. I'm thinking about using The Struggle Continues, with all the sound clips from various speeches as well.

one of the songs i was thinking of was mamas just a little girl. it touches on problems and the outro of it explains how people shouldn't think he's a horrible person because they're not realizing where he came from, but it doesn't touch on him talking about what he wants to do for change.

see i only have a limited amount of time. i wish i had like an hour so i could play all kinds of songs and explain them all because just one doesn't touch on everything i want to talk about.

thanks for all the help so far :thumb:

Pac tryed to change the way the ghetto kids. All I know is 2Pac said that he would spark the brain that will change the world. You can write about what he did to change other peoples life and not just the world. Sorry this does not help.

good die young is good except only one pac verse.

mainly right now i'm concentrating on trying to find resources for the paper. i can pick a specific song later on theres a lot of options i just have to find which one fits best.

you should use pac's actions more than his lyrics. nothing personal, but not many people would accept lyrics as the primary backing source for claims made in a paper. pac's involvement in the brotherhood crusade rally and his struggles to preserve his first amentment rights in the legal fights re: ronald ray howard. there's a lot to explore other than picking out four lines and calling them the theme of a paper. not knocking anyone, but i'm just explaining what a real paper might address instead of staying superficial.

well i really wanted a song of his just for an example of something that influenced people at the time to change their actions.

but i'm definitely looking for resources showing all the things he did like giving to charities and also those concerts he held where everyone in the community put in some money and they'd give it all to one family on the block.

right now i'm in desperate need of resources rather than a song. i can pick a song later.

he should check out the flipside section of hitemup too. that has some good ideas to look into

as for songs, you can't really play "my block" or "mama's just a little girl" in school. i recommend "keep ya head up" or "ghetto gospel." maybe even "brenda's got a baby," depending on how lenient your teacher will be to the content of the song. a lot of teachers dont like the graphic lyrics.

oh, and "letter 2 my unborn" would be good too.

I dont know any sites, usually Pac sites will have links to other pages just look around. I'd suggest getting into the DVD's aswell. The 2pac Vs is good for the Prison interview where he's explaining the prison system etc, aswell as Resurrection Malcolm X speach and the christmas special. Before I Wake you can use the part about bringing the disabled girl into the studio and letting her rap etc.
You can argue he was changing society by trying to influence the thinking of the youth through his music, and putting light on the issues facing poor communities through his speaches/interviews etc.

but i have to prove how culture and society was influenced positively by him, not just the lines from songs behind the influence.
