"new" hip hop isn't horrible, popular new hip hop is what is horrible
trust me, as long as you dont stick to "billboards top 100" or whatever you wanna call it, you can find some absolutely stunning shit that has come out recently
all it takes is a little effort, which people dont seem to be into these days

i consider the thug life cd as the transition of pac's old school style to the new school... old school rap to me is where the beat is very simple and the rap is usually talking with some what of a flow... rap has progressed since the old school days (some for better but some for worse) but people need to appreciate the oldies and realize that rap ain't always about bitches bouncin they booties on ya jank and ridin on dubz in miami (or goin to the circus with the brown bottle)... all the stories and lyrics are what hip-hop is all about... sure in the year 2006 u got club rap like lil jon but u still got some real rappers out there like Lupe Fiasco and then u got the inbetweeners like 50 cent, the game, etc.... lets face it, if illmatic were to come out today it would not sell worth shit to the fanbase... and there's no point in spreading a message if no one is listening... so support your artists like Lupe who are trying their best to stay close to the old school style and quit bitchin about hip hop being dead, all music evolves
I actually don't dislike him at all, just the fact of marketing off of skateboarding [I'm of course partial to this because skateboarding is one of my passions] ain't quite "real" too me, you know? I know I know, he skates, but in his interview in SLAP every word that came out of his mouth was complete bullshit, he doesn't have any more a clue about it then some person who has seen the fuckin X-Games on TV...
with that said, I still enjoy his music, even if his image he portrays is psuedo-fake

The fact is that not all "kids" favor the popular music out today.... many kids today who were just babies in the 90s can still find "old" rap far superior to the "modern." Thats why I totally disagree with the lame marketing excuse for remixing pacs music to make it "listenable" or appeal to the radio... 2pacs unreleased og material on an album if selected properly with a single would attract much attention and radio play, simply because pac has the power to do that with his name alone.... Amaru should not be so inclined to jump on the bandwagon of popular music today and confidently release pacs music as he intended, forcing people today to be "re- introduced to "real" rap...
Sure its easy to remix a song with a modern pop beat and stick a few pop stars on there, but it takes balls to release an og album with original beats and richie rich or kurupt, for instance, on a record... I mean isn,t that the reason pac is so legendary today, because he created something new, stood for something more, worked a little harder than the next man... (hint, hint Amaru)
Most of you rant about the "stupid, ignorant kids" of rap music today, but you have to sit back and think is it really thier fault, or is it what their fed through the media today?
I happen to know, because I am 17 years old, a youngin when pacs was alive, and enjoy his music just the same in 2006 for the 90's.... I found out some info, bought his "real albums" and he became my favorite artist, and I continue to listen to ogs every day even though my stubborn friends swear lil john and 50 cent are the greatest things ever.

Interesting topic. Because I just blew the dust off my old Too Short albums. Get in where you fit in and Cocktails. 2 albums you can listen to every song. Also blew the dust off of E-40 and Scarface. 93 and 94 were good years for rap as everyone knows. But it just amazed me how I still remembered every word. Any here the same way?
I'm definately a 90's girl, nothin like the 90's. My disapointment is that I know what Amaru are capable of, they have managed to release good albums with good singles and still sell yet they seem to be going down-hill as the years roll on. They need to stop trying to cater the music according to the current Hip Pop and just put out some decent records.
