if Pac's controversy didn't benefit him like it did.
so because Pac benefited from controversy, hiphop is worse off now?

Pac was the first and most major Rapper to benefit off of controversy? lol........

i dont think Mel is saying that

i agree with melly mel. 2pac did bring that 'fuck everybody' im a thug' image into hiphop and commercialized the shit out of it and now everyone goin around bitin off the same image. so i think 2pac had alot to do with the death of hip hop, which wasnt about money or how much of a thug you are. what? 2pac didnt rap about making money or being rich??

saaphir your only basing your info on singles son, you cant compare the singles that they play on the radio with other more real songs like hold ya head. apples and oranges son, apples and oranges...
Wrong.Tupac did not invented nothing new here...N.W.A. were the first to bring this "gangsta attitude".
Inside Tupac's heart, there was nothing but positivity.Beside his so-called "thug image",Pac tried and did a lot thing for his people and he stayed true with himself and true with others from the beginning to the end.
I'd like to tell you about that "Joshua's Dream" story but I'm to bored...

I think most of the people didn't/don't pacs message..yes he brought negativity to hip hop..But what would You do if you got shot?..I think had good intention but after he got shot he was full of hate and I can understand that..I even read the book makaveli which 2pac read in jail, when you read this book you can understand why 2pac made so many disstracks you could also understand why pac wanted deathrow east, I think pac was too credulous and probably he was too intellegent for most of the people..and he realized that after he got shot i think wanted the control about the rapgame (deathrow east, disstracks), before he could "go on his good way"..
Thats just my opinion..Pac wasn't godlike..but i think he was a very special person
Peace :)

I think when everyone talking about pacs negative side and tracks like open fire and many others excluding maybe hitemup and other ones directed at bad boy they forget that all those negative tracks are still have deep messages in them. how many people would agree with fuck the police?
so it was HIS struggle with society, world, police, gangz, drugs you name it. I dont think when listenig to pacs negative tracks makes you really negative about something, it just makes you think more and evaluate. Its just shows that todays rappers are really nothing more but showoffs and fools.
best post i've read so far :thumb:

Personally I don't believe Tupac's music or he himself was Gangsta, he was a thug though. There's a difference between being a Thug and a Gangsta.

Don't you people realize Pac's music or messages don't matter in this debate? It's all about how rappers who have followed and the industry have reacted to his success and the image that was portrayed.

^^^The problem is, alot of todays rappers listen and phraise Pac for the wrong reasons. Most of todays MC's consider him the greatest ever, which is fine, because I agree with that notion. But they consider him the greatest for all the wrong reasons.

Pac cant really help that todays rappers want to follow and/or duplicate his image. He doesnt really have any control over that. But anyone who listens to Pac's music and reads between the lines would know his music was made for positive progression, even if the songs themselves were negative. Songs like Open Fire, Fuck the World, Bury Me a G, and such were a mirrored image of where the young black males were at during the time......then songs like Dear Mama, Only God Can Judge Me, Still I Rise, White Mans World, etc were a solution and/or mirrored image of where they needed to get to.

Alot of todays kids dont understand that, because they dont read between the lines. They just listen to a hardcore song of his and think "yea, Pac was gangsta and the realest ever"......when you listen to Pac's music, you gotta think outside the box.

"I'll be a ten minute brother for a two dollar hoe / A lot of hoes get mad 'b' shit / I let a trick be a trick, you can have that bitch"

real deep

Look, for all you kiddies who haven't gotten the memo, Tupac Shakur was not God. He did not carry a cross on his back all through L.A. He was not crucified, and he did not come back from the dead. Tupac was simply a human being. Not everything he did had some hidden message to discover the meaning of life. Some of his stuff was simply superficial. "What'z Ya Phone #" anyone?

Oh, and "Fuck the World" had nothing to do with the 'struggle of the young black male.' It was about the struggle of Pac. He was pissed off.

I'm tired of hearing slurping sounds of people's mouths on his dick in this forum. Tupac was a great man with a great mind. I have been moved by his music, but not everything he did in his life was in the name of all that is good. Acknowledge that, please. Someone please just acknowledge that just once. That's what's supposed to be so great about him. That a man with faults can be such an inspiration. You people actually take away from him when you talk like this.

That's what I was replying to when I said that. Getting some ass and then leaving her is not a struggle.. it's a good time.
Such songs were a mirrored image of where the young black males were at during the time. Then songs like Dear Mama, Only God Can Judge Me, Still I Rise, White Mans World, etc were a solution and/or mirrored image of where they needed to get to.

So if Donald Trump's kid wrote songs about wiping their asses with money, it would be something special?
I don't think you understand his point. He was saying such songs as that you referred to mirrored how young black males were living at the time i.e. get money, fuck a bitch etc. but songs like Dear Mama, Still I Rise, Changes etc. were images of where they needed to get to. Thus both sides served a purpose.

Alright, I see what he means now with that statement, but that doesn't change my feeling in the original post. Not every song Pac made was for "the cause."

Tha Lunatic?
Peep Game?
5 Deadly Venomz?

I could go on, but I won't.

jus close this thread sumone, people jus typin bullshit, not knowin wat they are on about,i agree with dante,no rapper is an angel, not evry rapper has a gud side all the time.theres the gud and the bad and Pac was equal to both of his sides, expressing wat he felt and wat mood he was in at the time.....

Pretty good post.

No ones saying he's flawless.....well, im not anyway.

However, I dont think his faults should automatically deny him the right to be considered the greatest MC/rapper ever, thats basically what Melle Mel was saying. And I cant agree with that.

I agree with you though, Pac was not a flawless human being. No one is.

And Zero Cool, thanks for explaining my point!! Props.
