Medical Records

Do Docters give out personal details to a third party? I have a disability that effects my work and my employer is unhappy because of this. The situation is that my employer doesn't understand my condition, (as its awareness is pretty low) so they require supporting medical evidence from my doctor before 'they decide to help me in any way they can'.
I have given them my doctors name, And they intend to contact him for information. I know this stuff is personal. Has anyone been in a situation like this or know if they can gain details with my consent?

if you give them permission or tell them too, doctors can release your medical history. other than that, they can't.

well, actually...under the (un)Patriot(ic) Act, the feds can force the doctors to give it up without your consent and without a warrant...and even if they went out of their way to get one (which they don't need to do), the judge doesn't have the authority to deny the request for it. sounds nice, doesn't it?

those are the two ways they can release your info to a third party

The only way the doctor can give them your info is if you agree to it.... I work in a medical office, as a matter of fact I am at work right now waiting for this last patient to leave so I can go home.

Does any doctor who knows your full name have the power to look at your medical record?
Or do they need your health card number (ontarians)?
I don't know how it works it Canada, but any doctor cannot look at your records. Only the doctors you go to see can have access to them, unless you specify otherwise.
