what's weird is that even a free shareware program can alter tempo with minimal effects on pitch (if it all) so i have no explanation for ghetto gospel whatsoever. em is only partially to blame too, since various engineers and the final person who mastered the tracks all had toughed them in the process.
it was obviously not intended this way, but ghetto gospel was limited by the technology used.
experts in the industry know what eminem did was a variation of voice imitation. sure, its not used much, but eminem thought it's use preferable in this case.
im guessing em didnt like the way pac sounded slowed down (to fit the beat) and so used this not-perfect-by-any-means technology to extract data from pac's voice and let himself rap on top to give the acapella a broadened sound, after adopting pac's characterisitics. even the experienced engineers standing by eminem could do nothing more than what we hear on the final product. im glad this technology is not as advanced as it might be, or we'd be hearing elvis advertising bathroom accessories amongst other stuff. im not even going to fathom what amaru might do...

still though, i dont understand why they used this in the first place. as you said, dante, they have the ability to slow the acapella down with no affection to pitch and other stuff, so why? there is no reason to suppose that they didn't have the studio acapella.

Most of the album IS made of beats Em had lying around, which explains why almost none of them fit and a lot don't even go with the theme of Pac's rapping.

Eminem was brought in as one of the many producers on the project, just like any previous album. The other producers included DJ Quik, Red Spyda, Scott Storch, etc. ... which explains the bonus tracks.

However, Eminem offered to do the entire album for free. The tracks that sound the least fucked up are probably the tracks that he originally contributed, while the rest are the ones he threw together by fitting Pac's voice over whatever beats he had already made. It's not a bad thing in concept - he contributed the beats he had worked on and were planning to sell for free to Amaru instead.

If I had to guess what songs were a part of the original contributions, I would say Hennessy and Black Cotton.

It's an interesting theory that he slowed the voices down to make Pac sound older than younger, as these songs were all before the Death Row times. But I think the main reason is that he had to fit the vocals over whatever beats he had.

Is still fucked up tho.Like i watched some shit on mtv that eminem is a big 2pac fan.Like why whould he rush the cd in 3 day's.If he wus a true 2pac fan he whould take his time and understane every song and make a beat. After hearing the lyrics.Like it get's me really mad that he rushed the cd.if u ask me that aint no real 2pac fan.Like he new alot of people where looking foward to a new 2pac album. why whould u rush it.And let all of 2pac's real fans down.I really lost my respect four eminem after he pulled that of.

...for the same reason why people on this foum will hype their off-beat, off-bar mixes to death. sometimes when you put creative energies into a project, even if it doesn't appeal to others, you still have an attachment to it. ...the again, when a project is almost universally panned as bad and interscope suddenly is worried that pac's not a moneymaker anymore, well that might just open some eyes.
