Jay-Z recorded a diss song about Pac!

Got it from hiphopdx.com

In the upcoming issue of XXL Jay-Z opens up about his career parallels to Michael Jordan and his short lived drama with 2Pac in 1996. Here is the excerpt:

“I reference Jordan because he had similar stories. He said that he felt cheated when he got to the league and Larry Bird and Magic were leaving. I feel like that. I be like, “Damn, I wonder what it would be like with Big and Pac and everybody here.” The worst I’ve heard was that I wouldn’t be who I am if Big and Pac was here. That’s God given talent. You can’t…

And that would have been interesting too, how that would’ve played out with me and Pac. Because I wasn’t where I am now. It would’ve went down, it was a collision course, 100%. I knew some people out West and they told me about the [Makaveli] song. It hadn’t dropped yet, but was on the way. I had my record ready. I shelved it out of the utmost respect, but it was coming.

I performed it one time only at Apollo over ‘No Diggity.’ No one has that tape. They usually tape the Apollo shows, but they had just stopped taping for some reason. We tried to find the tape. It’s 2,000 people that know about it. I did two verses. It’s the truth, that’s the best shit. It’s so liberating, when you say what the fuck you wanna say .”

For those of you who didn't even know they had beef, I'll fill you in. At the height of the East/West beef and the height of Pac's paranoia, he went at any NYC rappers who sided with Biggie or basically said anything he didn't like in regards to the beef. Jay-Z was one of those rappers who was called out on Bomb First (and also on a couple unreleased tracks).

That's not the only time Jay-Z mentioned Pac in a song:

Thanx 4 tha info. I kinda always knew this tho, besides that line in Brooklyns Finest. Everybody from Mobb Deep to Lil' Kim had some diss referring to Pac, so it would be logical for Jay to have another one to. I never knew about the song though

some of those lines might've been from the song Jay did at the Apollo.
True thats a possibility. Too bad Jay doesnt make it clear when he performed that Apollo song in that interview.. If he did it before Pac died it was probaly a different song since the Sauce Money tracks talk about pac already being dead.

it sounds like it was more of a competitive thing with jay if you read his comments on it. i don't think it would've been anything personal (haven't heard the song obviously, so if i'm wrong then i'm wrong). i think it's cool that he shelved it though.

i dont usually post up replies but i was listening to g unit radio on sirius a while back and they had a guest on there that had a lot of inside info people didn't know about and he said jay z dissed pac on one of his albums because jay z said something like "you put dresses on your guns" which is reffering to pac's "Me and My Girlfriend".
I think it was on the jay z streets is watching soundtrack im not sure though but i remember dude saying something about a soundtrack, thats probably why not many people know about it.

^hmmm... that would be nice to hear... i still think there should be a thread that points out every diss (subliminal or not) that goes at 2pac... i heard lil kim had a line that went "set you up, wet you up, you shoulda kept your head up" or some shit like that... i'd love to hear these tracks and discuss if they were at pac or not... peace

It makes sense for a rapper to record a dis to someone who's beefing with them, I doubt he recorded it after Pac's death considering he said he shelved it. People who dissed Pac after he died are cowards.

Have you all not heard Dead or Alive pt 1 & 2. Jay-Z clearly dissed 2pac on those tracks and those were recorded after his death. Jay-Z made reference to the "Hawaain Sophie" skit that was on Makaveli, which came out after he died. Not to mention, Jay-Z talking about how he brings beef to the grave.

But what Jay-Z is supposedly talking about in this article is from the time pac was alive when he got heads up that pac was preparing disses for him.

But no matter what, he dissed pac after his death on mixtape tracks, which I have right now if anyone thinks I'm bullshittin.
