If you think about it in the literal sense you would understand asssholes.

Actually no, if you understood the meaning of the term you would see it makes perfect sense.

How come when someone tells you about a death in the family, someone getting hurt, even a bad haircut or something, people always reply with, "I'm Sorry"
What the fuck are you sorry for. You kill the mother fucker, you trip them down the stairs, gave them some dull clippers to the barber or something, what the fuck. I swear it is one of the most annoying things about people.
Im sorry you feel this way. :D

Hey Aristotle, you are getting the word sorry confused with apology. The two have different meanings and are always confused by people.

Apology or apologise is when someone tries to make amends for a mistake they have made. And when you apologise you are asking for a pardon or forgiveness by accepting your mistake.

Sorry is different. Sorry is a word used to express regret or pain at a given situation. When you say you are sorry. You are saying it as if to say that i wish this thing didnt happen. Or your expressing your grief at an unfortunate event.

Sorry = feeling. It is an expression of feeling
Apology = statement. It is a defensvie word which aims to defend and excuse you of wrong doing.

When you say sorry you pupose is to share the grief.

When you apologise your purpose is to say, "ok, it happened, now forgive me and lets move forward"
