I don;t get it, seriously.

How hard can it be to quit smoking?

I just don't get it. If you could go without it for 2 months you should be able to do withput it forever.

I miss it, and the comfort it provides. Its not the chemical addiction.

Oh no. Man, you lie to yourself right there. It might not the substance itself but the chemical reaction it provides....I know it's hard but well, you should quit ..... anyway, try 2 cut down first... like really cut down, maybe it's easier to quit then.

That's not true. I smoke like 1 cig a month..... if I run out of weed (which happens rarley) I might smoke a lil more.... so what I try to tell ya, I know the chillin effect of nicotine and I never ever was addicted to it, never really smoked...

See, there is an effect of nicotine on your body, even without beein addicted. This chilling effect you like. You say it makes you feel good whatever.... that's known effects...... let me provide a couple of links.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasympathetic_nervous_system

The parasympathetic nervous system uses only acetylcholine (ACh) as its neurotransmitter. The ACh acts on two types of receptors, the muscarinic and nicotinic cholinergic receptors.

(for more infos on the transmitter....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotinic_acetylcholine_receptor )

....so nicotine does stimulate certain transmitter in your body, it does effect your parasympathikus..... click on the picture in that wikipedia articel to see where the parasympathikus is 'located' at.... for example your stomach or your intestinal - therefore people like to smoke after a meal. That isn't only in your head, it's also a chemical reaction. It feels good. There are many other areas where it does effect your body.... if your nervous, if you feel chilled, if you r hungry, if you ate something, if ........ and that's why many people fall for smoking. Simple as that. So well, you might not be addicted to the substance, but well, you kinda r 2 the effects of nicotine. You shouldn't deny that. You say you enjoy it, the comfort it provides.... and that might be true, but what you gotta realize, this comfort isn't only happening in your head, it's a chemical thing, it's cause some receptors are stimulated. It has something to do with the substance.

Conclusion: I know my shit. :D ;)

I'm not addicted. I don't smoke a fixed amount, or have any habits. Some days I don't smoke at all. Some days I smoke like 8 or 9. Some days I smoke 1.

I haven't smoked for months at a time on occasions.

i enjoy smoking sometimes. when ive been drinking i smoke. but usually, if im angry, stressed, nervous, or just wanting to relax i pull out a ciggy. it's quite therapeutic, in a strange way. it focusses my breathing and calms me down. im with mili - some days i dont touch it, or am repulsed by the thought of it, but then other days ill have 3, another ill have 7. it varies. im not addicted either. but probably because i smoke lights only

The.Menace, I understand what youre saying but you're wrong in my case. I miss the actual ACT of smoking. I miss having it in my hand, I miss the crackle it makes when you light it in the cold of night, I miss rolling the smoke out of my mouth and nose, I miss flicking the ash, I miss puffing on it, I miss flicking the butt away. I miss SMOKING. I dont miss the nicotine, I miss the actual act of smoking, I always really enjoyed it.

What you don't realize is that you miss all that because the nicotine has become associated to it. Your brain gives you a virtual nicotine effect from just putting the cigarette in your hand, without any exposure to nicotine. So your body will crave holding it and flicking the ash. (You crave $12.50 a pack.) And more than just the nicotine does that. Take your pick out of about 4,000 chemical agents. Besides DNA damage which could lead to cancer, smoking permanently alters genes that affect all kinds of processes, turns them off or on, and qutting smoking doesn't seem to change them back.
