they sure kiss your ass when they know you have food tho don't they?
i had one cat, we would always feed him [or her, cant remember] tuna and every time we would use the electric can opener the cat would go crazy meowing cuz s/he thought s/he was getting tuna so it would suck up and be the most loveable thing, but then after it got its food, it was the same old 'go fuck yourself' cat that it normally was.
it was fun tho just to push the can opener button and watch the cat go crazy and get mad when we didnt give it food.
i'm not meanin to turn this into a dogs vs. cats thing but dogs act more like a friend while cats are more like moochers and dogs protect the house, what would a cat do if someone tried robbing the place while owners were gone? wouldnt even pay them any attention unless they bumped the can opener by mistake.

I swear if they discover a flying tick I'll kill myself.
lmao, random as fuck but i love it. god damn ticks.

Hate to make a serious post in a non-serious thread but...

Most people hate cats because they fail to meet the expectations of what they look for in a pet. Wolf packs are similar to human relations, that's why dogs fit in so well with us. Put yourself in a dominant position with a dog and they'll worship the ground you walk on (like celebrities), which is why most people like them so much. People think cats are stupid because they don't listen but it's because they don't give a fuck, they're solitary animals.
They're mostly nocturnal hunters so they sleep during the day to preserve energy, it has nothing to do with laziness.
If you take an animal for what it is and not for what you want it to be you'll find that you can appreciate any species. Except for ticks. I swear if they discover a flying tick I'll kill myself.
Yeah, I like the cats do what they want, my cat or ex cat :*(....OH DEAR GOD WHERE ARE YOU LIA!!

Anyway...the cat I had used to turn its back on me everytime I called her.

No but atleast the Cats would look down on the people attempting to rob the house. That lack of respect you can't beat.

Well that's what I mean. You're expecting something like a dog and when you don't get it you're disappointed.
Animals can't be nice or unfriendly, they just are. It's really just mutualism ("Mutualism is a biological interaction between individuals of two different species, where both individuals derive a fitness benefit, for example increased survivorship").

A dog doesn't protect your home because it loves you, it does so because it's territorial and because protecting the pack (its owners) is part of its own survival instincts.
You'll see lions nudging heads constantly, which strengthens the relationship, which increases chances of surival.

You show a dog affection and it shows affection back, which in turns makes you want to show him even more affection. Remember what The Joker said "We'll see how loyal a hungry dog really is".

I've adopted two 1-year old guinea pigs that had had very minimal contact with humans so they're not tame. A lot of people dislike rodents and when they're not tame there's not much you can do with them (unless you enjoy petting animals that dislike it) but I simply take them for what they are. I enjoy watching their natural behavior and the fact that they're noticeably far more happy and far less stressed than before I got them. They're not products and they're not there to benefit you in any way.

I'm a "cat person" (I hate that term) but I do recognize that dogs offer you more on a personal level. I like it when they show me affection but I don't confuse it with human affection. Like those lonely women that get a dog instead of a baby and fool themselves into thinking the dog is capable of loving them in the way they love the dog.

EDIT: You can compare it to the so-called friendships you had with some people in high school. During high school they provided you with benefits (someone to share your thoughts with, companionship so you don't get lonely etc.) but as soon as high school was over, so was the friendship. You're really just using the person. It's the same with animals but they're not capable of anything else so the term "using" no longer applies. You can form a meaningful relationship with an animal because they are genuinely happy to see you and you can be a positive influence on their life just as they can be a positive influence on your life.

R.I.P to my dog by the way, had to put him down last week :( He seemed ready for it so it was in a way as beautiful as death gets.

I hate cats cus they make me eyes water and my nose sneeze.

Also, if someone hates a cat cus they fail to meet the expectation of what they look for in a pet then more power to them. It's a pet. If you want to watch animals go on a safari or to the zoo don't bring one into your house where it is personal, why have a stranger walk around all day doin what it wants to do, shit would get annoying. That's exactly the reason dogs are the best pets to have.

i dont know bout yall but my cats are affectionate as hell. all they do is follow me around the house and nestle in next to me wherever i find myself during the day. all they want is a little scratch and play sometimes. the dog i live with on the other hand, is not mine and i dislike him. not all dogs, just this particular one most people just dont like him

That's not what I said though. I said people hate cats because they fail to meet the expectations of a dog, there's a difference. If you have false expectations you will nearly always be disappointed. If you don't like cats you obviously shouldn't take one as a pet but that's not what I'm talking about.

But like I said, cats aren't two-faced little fucks and dogs aren't kind-hearted companions. You want a cat to be able to do something it can't = false expectations. Only people can be two-faced. The reason you don't like cats has nothing to do with the cat itself. I hate ticks because they attach themselves to my body, which is gross and I'm at risk for Lyme disease. But I think it's stupid to say you hate ticks because they're parasites. Ticks are so unfriendly, they just take your blood and don't give anything back!

i dont hate cats because they arent dogs, that would be stupid. they're two different species. complete opposites. it would be like hating olives because they aren't grapes. i hate olives.

Chronic is spot on, I watch those animal psychology shows and they say the same shit.

You should watch "Martin Clunes: A Man and his Dogs", it talks about the things that Chronic has said about Dogs, also how modern Dogs were invented, yes, invented.

You can watch it here;

Video - ITV Catch Up

(You have to install microsofts new video plugin "Silverlight" to watch, also I had to double click to get the video to play).

CHaractristics of a cat don't make for a good pet that's why people want their pets to have the characteristic of a dog, cus they are the best pets.
