Heartbeat Too Fast

I got home from a friends house downstate today. Ever since about 1pm (it's 715 now), my heart is beating faster than normal and it's very uncomfortable. A friend that was with me on the trip is a nurse and she said that it's probably just from dehydration from the massive amount of beers I consumed. I'm really hoping that's all it is and it goes away soon because it's kind of scaring the shit out of me (especially since my mom just found out she has a partial blockage in an artery).

Other factors - i smoked a whole pack of cigs, ate very little food the last three days, inadequate sleep and I took some aspirin when i woke up because of the hangover (not sure if the medication sitting in an empty stomach might contribute or not).

I'm also on vacation and i've been drinking very heavily for a week.

I think this did happen once awhile ago but it was brief (like an hour). Anyway, my vacation is officially over and i'm going to lay off the booze for awhile.

And i don't even smoke i was just hammered and my friends were smoking so i did.

Any ideas?

Drink lots of water, eat healthy and get some rest. You just need to replenish yourself....but im no doctor, you should probably ask one for advice.

Hmm, no clues there.

I'm not a doctor (any more) but it sounds like swine flu to me.

Caffeine can give you palpatations, also excessive exercise etc, alot causes it actually and if you have them now and then its ok.. I was having them quite a bit for a consistant amount of time and the Dr said something like its considered ok if you have [enter large number here] a minute.. It was kinda shocking..

Anyway, Euph you mistreated your body so your body is mistreating you. I went on a month long trip around Europe on a tour group and most of that time I had a nasty flu/chest infection thingo and the last stop was Amsterdam. Well I was NOT going to leave Amsterdam without sampling the local greenery and so I told myself "I am going to abuse myself tonight I don't care.." and it was all well and good until the next day when I was having shooting pains through my shoulder and across my heart area, it was scary but it was my fault. This is the outcome you set up for yourself.

i hate these things it scares me too. i get instant/sudden electric sensations shooting on the left side of my like a lightning bolt through my heart. scares me and i jump and my mum knows whats up and i cant even lie to her that nothing happened because she gets worried and knows im trying to hide it so that she doesnt worry. even worse is that they happen at any random time.

and sometimes breathing in worsens it for the duration of the painful sensation.

I don't have that often actually. Although I think my resting rate could be a bit too high, but no sudden jumps without obvious cause.

Let's see.. Things that can give you symptoms like higher blood pressure, muscular twitches, angst:

- Lack of sleep
- Lack of nutrition
- Alcohol withdrawal
- Drinking alcohol/taking painkillers on an empty stomach
- Cigarette smoke

I think we found the reason sir :p

i get this too, usually after i lapse on watching my alcohol/cigarette consumption over a period of a few weeks, then i abstain for a week or so to let my body adjust

one of my family members had heart problems, it was through that i learned that Asprin is the best thing to take when experiencing chest/left arm shooting pains, as Asprin thins the blood and is a pain reliever also.

breathing is the best thing that you can do in these situations, the main reason for a heart attack is not enough oxygen getting to the heart for it to function properly.

also i get the feeling of my ribcage tightening in on itself, probably due to stress as a lot of stress collects in the muscles around the shoulders/upper torso area, everyday when i streach my arms i crack my sternum, shaulder blades, and spine, it helps a lot with relieving stress. maybe it has to do with stress

i think my resting HR is higher than average too due to higher blood pressure. i tested it because we had to do it for one of the modules in sports science 2 years ago.

ive cut down on exercise lately because i dont get a chance to go to the gym nowadays since ive started uni and gym isnt free like it was back in college. also no-one plays football (soccer for americans) anymore!!

i get that too sometimes. i drink a lot of coffee.
i dont drink any coffee or stimulants like red bull, lucazade or any drinks with glucose in. ive stopped drinking fizzy drinks for about 3 years now. only drink it RARELY.

I think a hip hop forum is the perfect place for medical advice concerning your heart :thumb:
lol

^^he is not having heart attack man. he's having a Mr Magic rap attack
lol

i love veg, im actually a little bored of eating meat all the time (mainly because thats what my dad and brother want for dinner most nights so mum cooks meats). i can cut down on meat and eat more veg, which i have been doing. but want to continue eating meats because they are good, nutritionally.

aspirin may help. i personally dont like to consume pills. butif i have to i will. i still take cod liver oil capsules and centrum multivitamin tablets.

i dont drink
dont smoke
dont take drugs
always watch what i eat, read labels research foods etc
i do press up and sit ups occassionally. i know incresaing muscle mass increases blood pressure.

also one thing which worries me is the possibility of the lack of oxygen my brain, heart and body must be getting because i find it harder to breathe now (and this reminds me of that thread of which people prefer doing - breathing in or out). i find it harder to inhale air through the nose because it always feels blocked. i think my nostrils have constricted and become smaller in size from the inside. i even try to clear it out by blowing my nose and it still feels 'stuffy'. doing this hardly makes a difference and shortly afterwards the bogies come back again.
