Has any one been to Japan?

Wont be happening anytime soon since Shenmue 1&2 cost nearly $200 million together to make and Sega can't afford to waste that use that big of a budget on games anymore.
I don't think that's the case because Shenmue 3 has already been made. It just hasn't been released.

That wouldn't really make any sense...

Shenmue 3 was rumored to have started development but its was debunked and was later said to be cancelled. No official confirmation has come from Sega that they have completed the game.

No official confirmation has been made about jack. But the game has been finished for quite some time, at least a Japanese version (English dubs haven't been done yet, I know that as Corey Marshall who does the voice of Ryo said so).

Check the Shenmue Dojo forums, there's a few people there with inside info, the game is done. Most of it was worked on when they did Shenmue 2, because up until the point where they needed to release Shenmue 2, they didn't know how many chapters of the game they should include.

(The entire first game is Chapter 1, then the second game is Chapters 3, 4, 5 and 6.....Chapter 2 is what happens on the boat in between the two games).

It's well understood that the final chapters have been created. That's why you'll see petitions asking Sega to release Shenmue 3 and not asking Yu Suzuku to make it.

That doesn't mean squat, find me a link

It was a rumored that the game was finished and ready to be ported but it was never confirmed and even if it was finished, Sega are in need of profits, so they would have released it by now with nothing holding them back. Like I said the first two games cost over $70 million each to make, Sega almost went into bankruptcy, they can't afford to make massive budget games like Shenmue anymore, that's why it was cancelled, it's not finished.

Official Sega statements have all said the game isn't finished or complete, until I see one of those, it's not.

The story of the game was done, I know that but the game was definitely not finished, this is actually known by most people. Online petitions don't mean anything, majority of the people wont have much knowledge what stage the game is at, all they know is that they want it released lol

Wrong. The games did not cost $70 million each, they cost $70 million together.

Sega almost went bankrupt yes, until they were bought out by Sammy. Sammy have shitloads of money, Sega aren't in a bad financial situation at the moment so they are not "in need of profits".

The game is done, that's a well understood fact. Like I said, it's BEEN done.

Here's a link from a few years ago, before the Sammy deal the game was already done.

Um no Sir, The first Shenmue cost up to or over $70 million to make, go look it up. I'm not taking the word of some dudes on a forum unless they post sources.

After years of development and a budget estimated at possibly as high as 70 million, the first chapter of Shenmue was released for the Dreamcast in 2000 to critical acclaim and consumer indifference

Find me another source that both games were made for $70 million, that's pretty laughable considering how big the game is.

I've read that already before, everybody has seen that article but where's the game? There's nothing official there, Kikizo post all kinds of shit, there's no facts in that article. Just an article from 2005 saying it will be on Dreamcast then ported to Xbox which obviously didn't happened.

Unfortunately, we can't elaborate on the sources of this information, to protect certain people close to the project

Exactly, no official confirmation here, I read similar articles from 3-4 years ago on other sites.

This is about the article you posted

Sega originally planned for Shenmue III,[2] but over time the project was likely cancelled, though no official word has been said directly on the matter. Various unconfirmed reasons for its delay varied from budget issues, poor sales of Shenmue 2, creative differences, commitment problems, etc. Over the past few years since Shenmue 2, Shenmue 3 has been announced for development and cancelled at least two times. An example of this is in August 2005, when Kikizo.com revealed that Shenmue 3 would be a compilation of the first and second installments plus the final chapters.[3] This, too, has apparently fallen by the wayside, as Kikizo recently stated that Shenmue III is "worth forgetting about." [4]After some time a new Shenmue project was underway, later revealed to be Shenmue Online, which has also since been cancelled. [5] The final chapters of the Shenmue saga have been finished already, but never went into production. Fans petitioned for Shenmue III's development, but nothing official has been announced so far. Because some believe the game may never be published, some opted for a comic book or script release for sales to give fans closure to the Shenmue story. According to Shenmue Dojo, Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki was quoted as saying, "Regarding Shenmue 3, we're not carrying on relative development yet, and I can't give you any further information for the time being."[6]

I'm visiting Shenmue Dojo quite often.

Shenmue online was finished and actually nearly ready to play.
They even had a soundtrack ready.
Anyway it wasn't released. It was a giant waste of money but also a terrible idea from the start.

The original Shenmue III (continuation of S2 story) from what I know wasn't done yet.

Anyway when Shenmue 1 and 2 came out they were simply terrific.
No game at that time gave so big possibilities and that groundbraking, closest to real-life graphics. Shenmue 1 was in development since early 1998!
No wonder it was so expensive. If Sega created Shenmue 3 now with just average modern graphics it would be much much cheaper.
