I think it's today lol. Kinda funny cos all English people know when St. Patrick's day is but not when St. George's day is

Anyways, happy St.George's day. Wonder how packed the pubs are gonna be lol

Saint George wasn't even English. He never even set foot on English soil. And he didn't even really do that much in his life.

St. George was an officer in the Roman army until he was martyred and he certainly didn't slay any dragons in Africa. He's the patron saint of England thanks to Edward III and the Order of the Garter.

Edward III, 1312-77... yet saint george has been found to exist in the christian calender as far back as the 11th century!

And surprisingly enough! there has been more than one saint george! Legends of saint george and the dragon... (yeah, cos back in the day, there were dragons! sarcastic tone) the original known and documented saint george... but these tales that spoke of a george were outlawed by the pope... "Acta Sancti Georgii" outlawed by Pope Gelasius in AD 496... from these tales, saint george came from ancient Lydda in palestine not turkey as i said before... (my mistake)

Due to the softening of the catholic attitude another story of saint george is invented... which is not outlawed...
George is in the roman army, as a cavalry officer... goes against the emporer Julian and refuses to hunt down christians... he is captured and throw in to prison, for going angainst the emporer and empire... tortured to death... but... he rises from the dead not once, not twice but three times... (seems like this george thought himself a bit of a jesus christ)... and because all this... around the 18 - 23 April we celebrate the feast of saint george!

But in todays world... many people dont believe things like that... so the official legend goes... what saint george symbolized, was the victory of Christianity over paganism. Hence the image of St. George is of a brave warrior, defeating enemies of the faith by Christian forbearance. In many of the ‘traditions’ the climax of the story actually has George smashing idols (dragons)....

But again there is no record of saint george stepping foot on english soil, or doing anything for england! That is why he is the Patron Saint Of England.... makes sense....

In no way am i racist... i just dont do religion in any shape or form!... i believe there is a god, but i dont think you have to conform to a religion to worship him.

And the reason i dont do saint georges day to celebrate my english heritage, is because where im from in the north or england, saint georges day seems to become a celebration of being white, rather then english... and im some areas can lead to racial feuds... but like many of my white black, and asian friends... i just stay out of it!...

yeah i agree st- george should now be st -immagrent . We English should not celebrate anything English just in case we upset any of the multi -national people lucky enoygh to live off are state here and plot terroism upon us - long live st immagrent
