You're lumping all Muslims together though. If we lump all Westerners together then we're both pieces of greedy, post-colonial, egocentric, nationalistic, xenophobic, racist shit.

All this muslim-bashing is like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Do death threats fall under freedom of expression?

Oh ja, en hallo!

Well, is it not fact that entire governments are sticking their nose in this? Thousands of people taking to the street over a cartoon they most likely have never even seen with their own eyes?

You can preach I shouldn't generalize all you want (and I shouldn't, of course, it's just that it gets tedious having to write "all the bad apples that are giving the proud muslim faith and culture a bad name" instead of "the east"), but fact remains these muslim shitstorms aren't the work of a few individuals. Entire nations are burning flags and besieging embassies.

If you read correctly btw, I only bashed muslims that overreacted on these cartoons and the Mohammad insults.

There is a case to be made that death threats fall under freedom of expression. It's on loose screws, however, when those threats are made by a mass of people foaming at the mouth. There is a very real chance that some of the "threateners" won't leave it at threats. Will you still wanna call that freedom of expression?

And yes, a lot of westerners ARE xenophobic racists. I see plenty in my environment.

Fine by me. I won't call for your head on a pike.

That shit Casey posted was two thumbs up. There are plenty and plenty of decent thinking Muslims out there, why do we hear from them so little?

That predominantly pisses me off as a Westerner. You have all your fellow religionists and you'll protest the most little slight against Mohammad, but when it comes to the people RUINING your religion, culture and the image thereof, there's not a sound to be heard. It's like tumbleweeds rolling by.

And it can't be any surprise to anyone with more than 4 brain cells that this pisses "the West" off like you wouldn't believe. In Scandinavia it's not shockingly uncommon for a young indigenous girl to be gang-raped by Arabic youths for totally no reason. Neither is that stuff in France. It's not rampant and it won't happen every day, but it happenes. Whenever something like that comes in the news, you have one Imam somewhere saying "yeah that's bad".

But when a Danish cartoonist draws a silly picture, BANG. Total shitstorm. Thousands take to the streets.

Do you have any idea how this affects the "white" Europeans? Do you really wanna know what a LOT of people are starting to think?

And fuck me, I'm one of the most lenient when it comes to this subject. You can call me an offensive racist all you fucking want but you should put your ear to the street around here for 5 damn minutes. You'd be shocked.

Someone designates a day as draw Muhammad day and you feel that you must exercise your first amendment rights by drawing caricatures...because someone made a facebook group about it?

This is what irks me. I am for freedom of speech. But if I have Muslim friends who are sensitive to the issue, I'm OK by not drawing Muhammad today. This way, I still believe I am not sacrificing freedom of speech but most importantly, I'm not being the asshole.

Molly Norris' intention was not for you to draw Muhammad today.

I'm not against anyone who is Muslim. I'm not against the various Muslim religious practices, faith and teachings. I'm not against anything except the idea that I can't do something because someone's feelings will be hurt. I'm also against the threatening to use violence just because someone is offended. I know that all Muslims do NOT fall into this category. But still, there are some that do. And this isn't about "my religion" vs "your religion" at least not in my opinion. For me, it's about equality in conjunction with freedom of speech. All or none. People talk about Jesus, God, Buddha, Catholics, Priests, Scientologists, etc and their leaders ALL THE TIME and people complain, people are offended and that's that. Why are Muslims above everyone else??

I have Muslim friends too, they know where i'm coming from and respect my stick figure drawings of Mohammed although they don't agree with them. Why? They are mature adults who respect that not everyone thinks the same as they do.

Also, what's the difference between everyone drawings pics of Mohammed today because it's "Draw Mohammed Day" and people who all go out and spend tons of money to buy presents because it's Christmas? If someone is all of a sudden offended by the connotations of Christ in Christmas should everyone stop celebrating? When someone designated a day as any holiday to celebrate anything.. do you participate? What's the difference? Someone, somewhere will ALWAYS be offended by something someone else is doing.

Ireland is traditionally a predominately Catholic country right, and in recent years we have had an influx of many nationalities and cultures including muslims. Nowadays, we have complants over tv ads from Catholic charities which were subsequently banned because muslims here took offence or some bullshit and the national tv broadcaster didnt want to upset them. there was also complaintes over Nativity of Jesus plays that they have in schools so they had to be banned in some schools as well.

is that not insulting to Catholics? they can come out and complain and speak against those aspects of that religion but if its the other way around there is always uproar.

I still have no idea why anyone would actually take their time out and do this. I don't give a fuck if its offending Muslims, but lets face it, the majority of people doing it is because they want to feel like bad asses. "look at me i drawd mohammed, muslims be pissed lolololol im cool.."

I hope people don't feel like a badass because they drew a pic of mohammed, unless the picture is amazing with lots of details and was drawn by hand and took hours to do. LOL

Well, the fact that these "normal" muslims hate on people who draw Muhammad more than on extremists who kill other people or just for the sake of argument - websites like revolutionmuslim.com doesn't help them at all.

to me this looks lame. are we in high school?

those preaching "freedom of speech" as a basis for drawing offensive cartoons.. what part of "some things are just offensive" do you not understand? do we still draw black people with fat lips eating watermelon? do we draw jews as angry looking people with hooked noses? just because you can, does not mean you have to, or should.

this shit is just a disgrace and is an embrassment. grow up.

I dont care about religion at all, but this is just plain disrespectful.

Mohammed was not meant to be drawn. He is not supposed to have a face. 1 billion people believe in this.

You can draw Jesus all you want, it's not banned in Christian religions to do so... It is in Islam.

Being provocative just to be provocative is a waste of time...

I think it's more to do with the fact that some Muslims seem to think that, because we are doing something they don't agree with, they believe they are justified in threatening and killing people. It's fine to disagree with what I draw, but death threats? Really? Yes the drawings are provocative, but if the reactions weren't so fucking crazy, this would be a none event. Do they realise that if they didn't go blowing up people who drew cartoons, there would be a lot less drawing of Mohammed?

I don't agree with many aspects of Islam, but I don't think about going over there and blowing myself up. Thing such as death for apostasy, women's rights, honour killing, LGBT rights.....this things offend me greatly. You can say that these are deeply held beliefs and me drawing Mohammed is just me doing it for the sake of it...but is my right to free speech not a right granted to me by my society? Societies are always going to have differences, but how can they expect tolerance of their religion and societies values, when they react in such a way to ours?

Qur'ran said:
If thy Lord had willed, He would have made humankind into a single nation, but they will not cease to be diverse ... And, for this God created them
Qur'ran said:
To each of you God has prescribed a Law and a Way. If God would have willed, He would have made you a single people. But God's purpose is to test you in what He has given each of you, so strive in the pursuit of virtue, and know that you will all return to God, and He will resolve all the matters in which you disagree.
