Different RUSD cover art?

#1
I recently got ahold of a RUSD promo ad, from around Halloween '97.

Looked cool, but didn't think much of it until I noticed something:

As you can see, there's a different cover here, same one as I Wonder If Heaven's ... CD single.

Just wondering if this was known and if anyone knows why they changed it, etc. Any info is appreciated.

nice cover, but does that mean they altered the cover from what it was suppose to be? cover looks good but the pac picture dont blend in.

DutchMakaveli could you up a betta picture, of just the cover?

No, I don't have access to a scanner at the moment, nor do I have a tripod for my camera to take a clear picture.

The final cover is better imo, more evidence of Amaru making good decisions back then.

Thanks for the info / picture :thumb:

interesting. here's another different cover, as you may notice you can see more of the pic above pac's eyebrows and the title being a bit off-set compared to the regular album cover.

the pic used for the RUSD cover is a mirror of the original pic.. if you look close enough you can even notice how badly they placed his diamond earring on the right side of his nose and shape it on the right side. you can also see the original pic on the back cover of S4MN.
I used to have the unedited pic

it's like this one I'm postin but you can see him wearing a chain like on this other 2 photo takes

^^^ It was a two-page ad, with on the other page this pic:

I'm assuming you mean this one?
(I couldn't be fucked to get out my camera, so I took a pic with my phone instead.)

Who says that it was going to be a cover?
Didn't anyone think of the possibility that it's just a picture for the ad?

And I don't think they went through the trouble to change the position of the ear ring. I think it's just a mirrored like you said.

^^^ That wouldn't make much sense.

Why would you advertise something which will look different? People would only get confused.
Not necessarily, this is done a lot. A lot of the Makaveli ads were from the All Eyez on Me photoshoot with the "listen very carefully" titles. For you Bone Thugs fans, the first advertisements for The Art of War had them in totally different pose from a different photo shoot compared to what ended up being the cover.

From a marketing standpoint, the pictures don't necessarily need to be identical; it's the logos ("2Pac"), fonts (serif computer-looking font used for RUSD), etc. that people will unconsciously recognize.

they did :p if you look at it you'll notice, and they also stretch the pic. I absolutely dont think they did a bad job.

it could just b a promo picture... don't necessarily mean it's gonna b the album cover...

QUESTION tho...
why would they flip a picture that's symmetrical in the first place?

I haven't really been paying attention to on what side his earring is, but now I see that he used it on the left side of his nose.. like in the RUSD cover.. so I don't think it's a mirrored picture..

..and it doesn't make any sense to mirror a picture and then change back an object to its original position..

Oh and yeah, as it's been said already, they do that stuff all the time with the ads. I mean, if they'd use the same picture for ads as for album covers.. it would be pretty boring, don't you think?
I'm pretty sure people would still recognize the artist.
