When you are placing an order for any product over the phone, you should learn how to properly give your credit card number. I want to say that there should be some sort of etiquette, but I suppose they are unofficial rules that are universal standards.

There is one rule. The universal standard for giving your credit card number should be in 4-digit intervals, allowing for a brief pause in between every 4 digits.

You are annoying/stupid if...

You give it out in 2-digit intervals. CHRIST! No one is that slow, and you are wasting time. two digits...pause...two digits...pause...two digits... SHUT THE FUCK UP!

You do not pause.

You have an American Express. If you have an AMEX card, please read it like it's a FUCKING normal credit card. Visa, Mastercard, and Discover all have 4-digit spacing on their cards. WHY is AMEX so backwards????? TELL ME NOW. It does 3 digits, and then something like 6 digits together...and then 4. I have to deal with you retards reading it exactly in that format.

You say the first 4 digits...and then have an awkward too long pause...and I have to say "okay" or "alright" basically to give you permission to continue. YO are you for real? It doesn't take that long for me to catch up. Just go. Don't wait for me.

You say your entire credit card number like your having a normal conversation. SLOW THE FUCK DOWN WHO ARE YOU?

It seems the most popular VISA first 8 digits are 4774 7700...

Discover ALWAYS starts with 6011. Strange.

Discover expiration dates are like rediculously far away.

well, most people understand that. when people say the numbers in two digits, it's not because they think you're stupid, it's because they are stupid. their stupidity keeps them from doing it any other way. everybody that's smart will nod to your thread, while everybody who's too stupid to have come to this conclusion by themselves will go about with their stupid ways. you could have saved yourself the time and simply put "if you read two and two digits, you suck".

i wholeheartedly agree with you though. i used to work for a phone company, man, people are so fucking stupid.

I read them out randomly. Like 1 digit, then 2, then 5 etc etc.

If you do it in 4-digit blocks it's easy for people to memorize. You can never be too careful.

When people call and they give me their credit card #s, they all say the digits one after the other and usually miss one so we have to do it all over again.

I always read mine out as 4, 6 and then 7...but only because I know the number and don't normally have the card on me.

First 4 is 6759 for a Maestro card, then the sort code, then the account number. Easy.

Tho I do prefer people to not read it out really fucking slowly at work. Or deaf people who just shout a stream of numbers at your, ignoring your pleas to slow the fuck down.
