she won some beauty contests. i don't remember which but apparently, she was sorta known. she got sick, went to the hospital, got diagnosed with kidney stones, got sent back home with medication, and then eventually she came back. it turned out she had septicemia, caused by some apparently little-known-about urinal tract infection. the sceptoscemia caused the loss of blood flow in her limbs, causing necrosis. they had to amputate her legs and hands. now this is where i thought it got interesting. she was pronounced dead today, but before she died they also extracted part of her stomach and both her kidneys, which were damaged due to internal bleeding. my question is, does anyone have enough knowledge of anatomy or medical science to try and bluntly explain why they did that? she was in a respirator, unable to breathe for herself, and they took away what i thought to be vital organs. can a human survive without kidneys? i know the answer is no, so what gives? also, if anyone knows, how long will the body work without kidneys?

yea. i dropped leaving the this is so sad comment in the post because it goes without saying. my feeling is that she's better off. she was a model. her body was her career. even if she had survived i would have felt so bad for her. also, as she wasn't conscious, at least she went somewhat peacefully. after a period of distress anyway. or to just say it right out - if i can choose pre-emptively, i would opt death over no legs and feet.
I could have saved her and cured her before the amputations.
They removed her kidneys and part of her stomach because bacterial infection had destroyed the tissues in them and they wanted to keep it from spreading further. And, yes, you can live without your kidneys. They put you on a hemodialysis machine which does the most important functions of the kidneys, though not all and not as well. No one knows how long a person can live like that but people have lived for decades on it

Aye, the kidneys can be taken care of by a machine, and the stomach, I dont know how good they are at artificial stomachs or whatever, but technically you can be fed intravenously.
Of course, without feet, hands, stuck on multiple machines 24/7 isn't much of a life, but doctors try to save lives, no matter the "results" (I don't mean that in a sarcastic or negative way, but that's the basic idea of course). I suppose that at some point, as double tragic as it may make it, the case itself became "research" as well.

ya, like he said they only removed part of the stomach so that part was fine. and i've heard about and seen hemodialysis machines (on tv) before now that it's mentioned.
i dunno why i cared. partially because i thought you couldn't live without your kidneys so i was intrigued. but also because this chick was 20 years old, so i sorta related to it. she wasn't killed in a gang fight or robbed on the street, and she didn't crash in a plane. she was misdiagnosed. it happens all the time, but this chick was beautiful, succesful and young. i first read about how she was in critical condition. then i read about how she had to amputate. then i read about how they tried to amputate part of her stomach and the kidneys but couldn't save her. lastly, i die a little inside when i see pretty girls suffering. the cold, squishy fish heart inside me was touched.
