Are you a feminist?

Do you consider yourself to be a feminist?

I definetly do. Not in the angry "I hate men" - way (which I don't even consider being feminist but that's another story), but I want a society that is more equal. Sweden (where I'm from) is considered to be very equal, but still women have lower wages than men and women don't get treated with the same respect as men do.

That's intresting. But why wouldn't you fight for it? It doesn't have to take much of you, something as simple as choosing a political party who are for equal rights between the sexes could be considered fighting for your rights.

There is a quote about this that I like:

"I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat." ~Rebecca West, 1913

Lol. It rings true. I'm cautious of the label of "feminist" and I think people (mostly farty conservative men) use the term to belittle what feminism stands for. Why is it that believing in equality between the sexes has to be given a label, one that reduces the whole notion to just some group of women with stupid ideas about society. I think we shouldnt have to be labelled 'feminist.' Feminism should be a norm in society, not an exception to it that can easily be labelled 'radical' and therefore quickly dismissed.

So yeah, I refuse to call myself a feminist. Not because there arent streams of feminism which share goals and values of mine, but because in calling myself a feminist, it seems to add further the issues of the gender divide and the down-playing of issues of importance to women.

Not really a feminist. I just want equal rights for everyone, regardless of sex, race, or religion. So i guess i'd call myself an equal rights activist :D and hell yeah, i'd fight for it!
