rndm,

I do. I think life in general is one big joke and it's hard for me to take things serious even at the most serious of times. I just think we've created this system to benefit us but the more I get into it I realize it just makes us stress over insignificant things for the most part.

lol.

our social system is a "joke" in the large spectrum, but our existance? humor is not a part of order/chaos. we're as serious as it gets.

Puff stole my line.

To go along with your question though. Our existence could be anything we want it to be, a joke a serious situation, whatever. That's what unknown is all about.

why is it a joke? you are looking too out there. sure, in the grand scheme of things, our existence means absolutely jack shit. but in our world, on our planet, in our country, in our cities, in our communities, in our families; our existence means a great deal.

It is a joke, the only real purpose of our existence is to die. People say its "to make decisions" "chose morals" blah blah etc, those are just opinions. Life is just a way to kill time until we die.

thats a depressing statement if i ever heard one. death sure is a part of life but it isnt the purpose. life is meant to be experienced and enjoyed. its whats happening right now so if ur always living in the future or in the past, always lost in your thoughts, then it isnt available to you. and then u start to feel empty, like somethings missing, and make statements like the one i quoted. so stay in the present as much as u can, switch your brain off from time to time and enjoy the stillness

preach is right on with rahim too, schooling.

If you think existence is a joke, I suggest you check your own definitions of existence, humour and reality. If you don't take your existence seriously, then it is a joke. If you don't joke with your existence, then it is serious. It is that simple. Try not to think in terms of joking or seriousness, think business. This is some schooling

Everyone is ultimately disposable. That’s the way life on this planet works. From the moment of birth, all of life is simply a walkway leading to death. People don’t like the idea of being impermanent, but no matter how important they are, every person and every thing in life is transitory. Everyone who ever lived was disposable. As important as Buddha or Christ were, they were impermanent too. They helped humankind, they gave people new insights, but ultimately they came and went. It’s what they left afterwards that people remember and treasure.

We remember those who live honestly and who earnestly seek to create beauty. We love the honesty of expression in music, literature, poetry, and art. We also cherish people’s contributions made on a more personal level to improve the lives of their families and friends and to enrich their communities.

One of the problems with the paradigm of permanence is that you know in your heart it’s not true. But you’ve already given your loyalty to that belief, hence you are living a conflicted existence, which creates a sense of emptiness. On the other hand, when you live in the moment and accept the moment as being impermanent, you don’t feel betrayed and dying is no longer threatening.

However, I believe that underlying 7 Syns’ sentiments is a larger perception that our generation is alienated from itself, our parents, communities and just about everything else that is vital and imaginative for experiencing life’s fullness. In many cases, young people feel a resentment toward their parent’s generation for producing a society filled with strip malls and an insane ethic that everything should be exploited for personal short-term gain. Or else young adults are too numb to notice or feel there is anything authentic and real around them. This has been the primary conditioning they received from their families, education, and environment, and so in some ways it is all they really know.

Our existence is 'what it is'.

Do you really feel the need to define existence in terms of language or definition? Words are a system of language, and every system has its limits and boundaries. I ask you here, do you think existence is a system? No, our existence is instead riddled with systems. No system can define reality, being, or existence. Science, religion, and philosophy, all go about trying to define 'our existence'. Yet these subjects are impartial, and each one of its own deals with a selective foundation of principles.

The media interferes a great deal in our perceptions of our existence. I disregard science as if it were to be the ultimate explanation to a theory to life. Religion has good psychological implications, precepts, and foundations. Philosophy rules over science and religion, there is no precepts in philosophy.

Go on and try to define existence, without experiencing it. I wish you well.

What I think is that most people think life is a subjective/objective dilemma. They can't transcend the concept of duality. Is it good/bad, is it a joke/serious; are they really living in a world that has both these qualities? Plagued by fucking comparison, and can't tell the difference!
