I am my own business, I also run an event management company and record label, and I have just become a silent partner in a Finance Company, I count that as my own business as well as I am helping fund it and am one of the principle share holders.

I also consider StreetHop a business although it makes no money lol, and am probably going to purchase another website as a silent owner type thing.

Kind of. I run the business but I report earnings/service/labor to the corporate office.
are you the manager of a franchise or something? or are you a sales person and 'responsible' for an offshoot.?

Financial advice, brokering loans, bad credit loans, helping people find the best credit cards, stock market advice, portfolio management, etc etc.

Actually I was refering to business in the sense of personal concern. I am so self consumed.

Gordon Ramsay's got it down to a T in running a catering business. He goes on tv, goes round other peoples business's giving them his advice, which I think is great. His attitude is a no-nonsense one, and it works. I never would have know it to start with but being a chef is turning me into an arsehole. It's not my personality but thats the attitude I need to get the job done. I gotta shout to people in the kitchen, it's all part of communication. I try to limit the swearing but I don't see that lasting much longer. It's all part of the motivation aspect I guess.

That makes sense. My former best friend that I fell out with not too long ago is a chef......explains why he slowly became more and more of a prick over time.

lol.

Like I said it's not personal. It's not like me to be condescending in an arrogant way towards other people. But the more I act like I want to get the job done the more people take it personally.

I made a thread yesterday about people in a workplace having mixed priorities, people take things out of context.

So maybe your friend isn't a prick maybe he is developing a no-nonsense business attitude and it is rubbing off on his personality.

No start up costs or anything.
I just decided I was tired of working for people, limited flexibility as far as time off for vacation/holiday and spending my entire days at work. So what I did was look into being an independent contractor.

I'm in the marketing field. I do copywriting, market research/analyzing, some PR, and project management.

Basically, what I wanted was flexibility. So, I comb through ads online and craigslist, etc of companies needing someone in need of help for a project that they're working on with a deadline. I contact them and pretty much convince them on why it's better and more efficient to hire an outside independent contractor. Reasons being:
1. You won't have to continue to pay me once this job is done.
2. I can work from home and have my own supplies so they don't waste money finding space for me or buying supplies for me.
3. I can come right in and get started as i'm very familiar with my line or work and I do not need training.
4. Once it's over, it's over, they won't waste money trying to find busy work for me until the next project comes up.
5. If they don't like me or my work, then the mutual agreement is ended at no extra costs to them as opposed to having to waste time trying to retrain someone.

Usually, they see things my way. I can be very convincing. I get myself "gigs" I've been on location at this current company for about 3 months and it works well for both of us. They keep finding different projects for me to assist on b/c I don't have a dept. that I belong to with a job title that holds me back from doing things. Also, I can't see "this isn't my job description" or beg them for a raise.

I get paid very well for the most part. Right now i'm getting about $1800 every two weeks. I'm only 22, so that's pretty good.

The downside is no job security as I work for myself and I have to pay my own taxes at the end of the year. But I have so much flexibility, I love it. I actually act as an agent for my boyfriend and help find him jobs as well.

If I worked for myself, I'd probably run the business into the ground. I need deadlines and orders, pressure from the top.
