A press release from the Metropolitan Police, which doesn't specifically name Winehouse, says:

"Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.

On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."

Winehouse famously battled addiction to drugs and alcohol and was in and out of rehab several times throughout the years.

Last month, Winehouse canceled her European tour after a performance in Serbia where she seemed completely out of it.

Story developing ...

"Ms. Winehouse is not the first singer who died at the age of 27. Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones were the same age."

Damn.

Yeah, the 27 club. It's a known thing. The thing is, it's become this sort of mythological bullshit blown out of proportion.

See, it was already a known thing before Kurt died, and he knew about it, and had talked about it, and as soon as his mother Wendy Cobain heard that he'd killed himself, she said "He's gone and joined that stupid club, hasn't he?"

Also - Hendrix was murdered. Most people don't know that.

Fuck that abusive, alcoholic bitch. And that's not even going into how shitty her music is.

^^Hendrix was murdered?? Tell me more....separate thread if you must.

I was shocked when I heard about Amy Winehouse. I didn't follow her career much but I picked up on the downward trend from the news crawlers. I mean, today was my first time to see the clip of her smoking crack...which was quite disturbing. I just didn't think it was going to end this way for her.

RIP.

EDIT: Not that it matters but, at some point today Vanilla Ice was trending ahead of Amy Winehouse after her death was announced. This was due to comments he made about Justin Bieber :)

That's someone's daughter, someone's friend. Shame that some people can't have any compassion. I'm not a huge fan of her music, but she was an incredibly talented singer who clearly had a lot of demons. May she rest in peace.
Agreed; We have the usual people who seem to be all like "Who cares, people should care about Norway" Lets be real, most of those people won't give a fuck about Norway by the end of next week, most of those people have probably forgotten that Japan still needs help, most of those people probably don't know whats going on in the Middle East but have decided to take a stand today, most of those people are the ones complaining about their pathetic lives like OMG MY BF OF 2 MINS HAS DUMPED ME or MY LIFE SUCKS etc etc.

Anyway, Amy Winehouse was hugely talented that unfortunately became addicted to drugs, yes it was her choice to take drugs, it wasn't her choice to become addicted to the drugs, she never hurt anybody but herself, but people still choose to ridicule as if she did something to them personally.

No. She did hurt someone other than herself. I too was not a fan of her music, but she had plenty of publicized issues with her life. We all do. Not quite like her, though.
