Ross is the biggest fraud in hip-hop history. He want to rap about dealing weight in his younger days, but in real life his fat ass was attending law enforcement school, receiving training, and working as a C.O. I just dont see how the rap community can just look past that, and listen to that trash!

^^ That's totally different. Denzel doesnt walk around saying that his Training Day character is true, Rick Ross does.

I agree with the OP.

^ Bingo. And that's what S O F I was trying to say.

I guess I can agree with people that say "if you're going to talk shit, you better back it up" - but at some point, a listener needs to let go of the image and creditability. Start focusing on the artistic value of the music. If we were to dissect someone like Tupac and the things he rapped about, we could come up with lies (or painted situation that are based on a true story) or many hypocrisies - AND THAT just ruins what his message is saying. That's my thought on storytelling.

When we talk about Rick Ross, the situation is a lot worse because he basically did a 180 degrees turn. But so what? He lied to you? Boo fucking hoo! Here's a tissue! Go listen to something else. He lied to you to get some money from you so don't give him your time of the day. Just stop the noise. I don't listen to rappers like Rick Ross and expect honesty about how many kilos of coke he sold -- it's entertainment, and a very shallow one at that in my opinion.

Lets say he was a C.O. brining in drugs into prison to help out his brothers in struggle - would that make it alright? BULLSHIT! He's still yapping about moving weight and his music still sucks. His creditability makes no difference on how good his music is. (at least to me)

The guy is not running for political office. Nobody is forcing you to listen to the crap he puts out and you most likely downloaded it for free. It's time to delete it and move on.

That is because being a rapper is having to be in character 24 hours a day. Like Salty said, the lies or the acting doesn't take away from the music because I as an objective listener can separate man from music.

I remember Tupac saying in an interview something like, "This is not my real life. THis thug life, it's not who I am. I'm just selling records, man." Something like that.

Is Rick Ross a liar? Yes. Are many rappers? Yes. He just got caught. Akon is just as bad thought but he didn't get the same treatment because he's not a rapper per se.

I will just focus on the music. I like to see people like salty acknowledge the separation from the man and the music even though if they don't like the music.

Not to mention the pressure that these labels put on you. You think Def Jam didn't pressure him to create this gimmick? Why do you think Joel Ortiz isn't on Aftermath? Because they try to make you into somebody you're not.

Putting on a tough guy image or a gangster image when you weren't one is one thing. Rapping about being a big time drug dealer and hating cops when in fact you were a correctional officer is a totally different thing.

^Why? Because being a correctional officer implies you LOVE the cops? LOL

Because being a correctional officer implies you could have never sold drugs? LOL

All this tells me is that Rick Ross actually had a real relatively-respectable job. So, props to him for that. It was a source of income and he thought rap would bring in a larger income. who fuckin cares?

I'd take that over a rapper who never held a 9 to 5, never sold drugs, AND talks about selling drugs...not that I really care to begin with.

If Ricky Ross was smart he'd just go with the smuggling drugs to the prison angle, or lettin dirty kites slide or something lol.
