Something hit me this morning while drivin thru the city. Listening to the radio with all this crap that's out these days like *cough* current day Kanye and overall abuse of autotune on rap verses (No problem with it on hooks and actual singing, but verses?). Then the house inspired constant machined beats, uh Let It Rock? wtf? etc...
Then it hit me. It all just felt like a dejavu of sorts.
So I think back to the early 90s. NWA had just broke up and Deathrow started up, Dre dropped the chronic, and ish blew up. The genre gains mass commercial momentum all of a sudden and we proceed to have a "golden era" of 5 years or so with lots of artists coming up with good quality music!
Then of course tragically pac left us, Deahtrow collapsed, Dre bounced.. and all of a sudden we arrive at the post DR era that all of a sudden starts to feel eerily similar.
You know what im talkin bout! the 97 to 2000 period of "what the fuck??" music. LOL. Shiny suits, softy pop melodies bling-bling and overall mutation of music styles *cough* what people labeled as "experimenting" and "trying new things".
I call it a period of "Nothing to inspire anyone". Nothing to push anyone to make something better. The no brainer years.
Then Dre comes back drops chronic 2001 and all of a sudden we experience another era of a whole lot of artists coming thru with good ish. The south blows up, people are out doing ish, new shit, they're all inspired in some way...
Again another 5 years....
Now we arrive at the current day..
See the connection? Today's ish is all top hats, softy pop melodies, bling-bling, and over mutation of music styles yet again what people label as "experimenting" and "trying new things"
Is it just another period of "What the fuck??" that will blow over or are we really all turning into pill poppin, syrup sippin rave heads going house or the birth of modern day electro rock rap?
So being the Dre fan that I am and basically growing impatient of the years of pushing this shit back....... DRE needs to drop detox and spark that shit so people get inspired to drop something better again!
So we can get another 5 years of tolerable music LOL
/end of rant
