I'm sure it's been talked about somewhere in the last 5 years since I've been inactive but fuck it wanted to get your guys thoughts.

I've always thought of myself as a fairly liberal/progressive guy. Since I've been at university for the last 3.5 years I'm finding out maybe I'm not. My university wanted us to start using gender neutral pronouns as not to assume anyone's gender identity. So instead of saying he/she they wanted us to use Ze instead. I thought that was ridiculous.

What you all think? Have you run into any situations like this?

I've seen a lot of it on the internet where people post screenshots of the nut jobs that demand others use their pronouns and really create a toxic environment for others for not doing so.

My impression is that it is worst in the UK and AUS than it is in the US. The absurdity is still here in the US, but people aren't losing their jobs or being publicly shamed for "misgendering" someone. Even Canada considers it "hate speech" to misgender someone, if I'm not mistaken.

Honestly, I think it's just a trend. I think there are people with legit gender dysphoria that want to be sex they "feel" but I think the whole problem goes away if we abolish gender roles and what is perceived to be male and female roles/jobs/etc.

The true dysphoric people, I feel, are a minority. The dysphoria is their mental "illness." I think the majority of people in the gender non-conforming and trans crowd are just people looking for attention and many of them have other mental illnesses that is not gender dysphoria. I think I saw a piece that said there was a correlation between autism and many transpeople. I don't know, but seeing what gets posted on social media, there is certainly some mental illness going on with a lot of these people that are making a big deal over pronouns and "trans women are women too."

I hate it, it's facism to make people conform to how you think people should behave. I'm all for equality, but there's a level where shit gets dumb and become a waste of someones time.

It is ridiculous. We should just use the gender-neutral they and them, especially in speech. For writing, I think we should all use the gender of the person doing the writing. So you will use he and him and a woman will use she and her. If we all agree to that, everyone will know no one's making gender assumptions and there will be no gender pronoun imbalance in the sum total of English text.

I remember when it was considered rude to call someone they or them, now it' ze? Fuck off.

It'll swing back around, next generation will rebel against it. It's always that way.

The problem for me is that it's not equality, it doesnt take into consideration how everyone feels, it is literally a battle of who can scream the loudest, so we get the minority being as outlandish as possible for attention and then the rest of us are expected to conform to their opinion. Fuck them.

Jesus where is @SicC when we need him. Anyone still got a direct line? I don't have FB and cant find his number. Push comes to shove I can contact his son.

Too shocked to answer *hides in safe space*

No but seriously everyone’s scared to offend everyone. Can’t say this, can’t say that. I find it’s becoming to the point that if one has to think through everything that comes out of their mouth, can we really say one still has freedom of speech?

As for gender dysphoria, while it is a real thing, I don’t think it applies to as many people as they claim. It’s a fad. It’ll die.

And yet I thought that calling someone a faggit was still a perfectly fine thing to do. Sure everyone did at my uni, although I'm sure if I referred to my buddy as a "Ze" he would be much more offended. I know I would - the fuck is a "Ze"?

Do such things happen for real? I thought it's just the internet trolls. And I live in Canada now, I thought the most PC place on earth where it's apparently offensive to ask a Chinese coworker where to get the best noodles.

Seriously though, just a couple of years ago my business class taught us about the business cultures and the differences between people from different places, and it was fine and very informative, especially in a multicultural place where most people are immigrants and some behaviors just aren't obvious. I would surely deal with a South American team in a completely different way than an Eastern Asian one because their cultures are completely different. Now that class is gone because there are apparently no differences between how people should be treated.

I think PC should in no way take priority over legit information. The fact that everyone should initially be treated as your equal and judged by his actions doesn't mean that there are no differences between sexes or races or cultures, and obscuring that is just stupid. Life is going to offend people one way or another and I think growing a super-sensitive society is taking us back as a species.

The internet is how the whole movement started and it's the fuel to the fire. There are forums and Tumblrs that are dedicated to making up genders and personalities.

If any of you have the time, check out Tumblrinaction on Reddit. It's kind of shit these days because it has slowly turned in to some alt-right shit hole, but some of the top posts of all time (which you can sort the filters in to showing) are some screenshots of some of the most bizarre people and blogs you'll ever see.

They do exist, although a minority, but they are loud as hell. When I get some free time, I'll find some of the most retarded shit and post them here.

EDIT: fuck it, you guys do the grunt work. I sorted it by top all time

They are, and I feel like I'm one of those people stuck in the middle of all this, because sometimes the Liberals are correct, and sometimes the "Right" are correct. But more often than not, both sides are fucking wrong. It's like both extremes who don't know where the fuck the middle is.

Drives me mad.

Ze? Wtf is that.

I've dealt with this once in a work situation and the person involved had a good relationship with me so when she wanted to now be considered he I called her random men's names until one stuck, it was Harvey. Definitely wouldn't go over well in a more professional work environment but fuck this stuff is getting ridiculous. I don't know how some of you deal with it when you actually have to

What I don't get is women wanting equal rights.. but still expect men to pay on the fist date

As for the gender dysphoria .. anyone seen the Louis Theroux docu with the kids that are being treated for it with drugs? Fucked up

Haha

I always offer to pay. I dated a girl whose father was a big player in tech. She was getting a ridiculous allowance even though she was 30. I don't think she ever put her hand in her pocket
