Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

I'm going to be vague on purpose but...

I've been saving a long time to get something. I told a friend about it over the summer...showed him pictures of it etc. He just shrugged it off "Oh yea that's kinda cool" whatever. He sent me a picture of it today and said "What do you think?" :eek:h: umm...I think this was my original idea? He snapped back at me basically saying his reasons for getting it were better than mine. My reasons were silly.

Not only do you copy me but you won't even acknowledge you got the idea from me? Then he says "We can't like the same things? You can still get a different one than I got."

But I don't want the same sh*t as someone else...mmmkay I want original. Even if it was something that was massed produced (which it wasn't) no one *I* know has it.

Part of me feels like a brat and part of me is really p*ssed off. Ever happen to you?

I know you're being vague on purpose but now I want to know what it is. (so I can buy one too....... just kidding).

But yeah, happens all the time, but I like it. Shit, look at how many people just on the board alone went Android because of me. lol. I'm happy to give advice on which products are superior to others. Obviously that might not apply with whatever it is you're talking about.

No point being upset about it though , what's done is done. Next time if you don't want that to happen, don't tell someone.....at least not ahead of time.

If it is a gadget or something... No biggy...

If it is something to do with fashion... Then I agree with you. I'd be pissed...

Can you tell us ball park, what area it comes under?

It would be similar to if you told someone "I want canary yellow diamond encrusted boxing gloves with my name on em" It's something so specific and personalized and customized that the chances of another human having the same exact taste are pretty slim. Then he's basically telling me "You just like to watch boxing it has more meaning to me since my great great great uncle Marvin was a boxer"

HAH I'm sure I just confused you even more.

I got an iPod with my girls and my name etched with a good quote, and he used the same quote with his or her name.
It annoyed me, but I got over it.

Yours sounds more personal, i wouldn't get mad unless he really got it. He could just be pissing you off.

There are plenty of other dildos out there, Kelli. If he gets the same one, it's ok. Just microwave a cucumber for thirty seconds and use that and get over it.

Wait a minute. This is completely different.

In her case, she told a friend she was getting something and in no way, shape, or form did she want her friend to get the same thing.

You on the other hand, used the board to show your appreciation for android and crafted arguments why it's superior to the iPhone OS. You wanted to convert people to Android. Kelli wanted none of that in her case.

Anyway, Kelli, my advice to you is to drop the idea and brush off your friend's taunts. As soon as your friend gets the idea that you're not too keen on what she/he got and that you grew out of the idea, your friend will start feeling stupid for getting it and won't feel the same satisfaction.

Then, get something else that's ultra rare and cool and customized (if you're adolescent like that :p ).

I think it becomes an issue when the 'imitation' is skin-deep. If someone copies something you feel is a part of your personality, or something you can identity as being personal, then I can see why it's insulting.

If it's a car, or gadgets... something you prehaps suggest to someone because it is of good quality (As Casey said, Android phones) or an ideology which may help you live a better life, then it's not an issue.

i think that's crazy stupid.. you have every right to be pissed off. you're sharing something to someone about a particular thing that you want which has a lot of significance for you, and he copies it? not only that, but he goes ahead and does it and then acts all defensive when you question him, to the point where he acts as if it was always his idea initially?

sounds like an asshole to me. you associate with some really weird people man.
